Professional Background:

I’m a licensed health care provider in North Carolina who holds a doctorate in clinical psychology.  I provide individual therapy to adults struggling with a host of issues, some include depression, anxiety, postpartum mood disorders, identity issues, trauma and loss, and adjustment to life stressors. Furthermore, I specialize in couples therapy and passionately dedicate a good portion of my practice to helping these individuals reestablish
their connection.  Couples in my practice range from newlyweds looking to avoid pitfalls to those who have had long-standing marital dissatisfaction.  Regardless of the presenting difficulties, I help clients get to the core issues quickly and to feel hopeful and confident that there will be progress.

I’m a transplant from New York City and have had a breadth of experience working in various challenging clinical settings.  Prior to moving to North Carolina, I was in private practice in New York City since 2005. I am currently a member of various professional organizations and participate in evidence-based trainings to enhance my clinical expertise with individuals and couples alike. I’m also bilingual and can conduct therapy in Spanish.
What to Expect:
I have a warm, empathic, and direct style that clients seem to appreciate. I’m also perceptive and hopeful about making change.  I have been in private practice for over 10 years and understand the urgency that clients experience when they begin this process.  Initially, therapy sessions focus on obtaining history, using that information to clarify issues, detecting maladaptive patterns, and understanding how these difficulties impact your well-being.  My clients and I also collaborate to define short-term and long-term goals as well as discuss the length of treatment. During the course of therapy, my goal with all clients is to highlight both ways in which they make strides while moving them through the more challenging aspects of therapy.  I truly enjoy supporting my clients and I’m very much in their corner.

Therapeutic Approach:
Individuals often enter therapy focused on current issues that cause stress and are counting on practical feedback to improve their well-being. I follow an individualized approach by discussing your goals while tailoring evidence-based interventions to address your concerns. These interventions may include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Relational Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Gottman Model, and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.  I also believe that long-lasting change depends on my clients learning about how past experiences shape current feelings, perceptions, and behaviors.  Therapy that integrates past and present life events help individuals gain a higher level of insight and compassion for themselves and others.  Most often, with this type of support, my clients find the freedom to move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and self-awareness.
