Professional Background:

I’m a licensed Clinical Psychologist in North Carolina with offices in Durham and Raleigh.  I provide individual therapy to adults struggling with a host of issues, including depression, anxiety, postpartum mood disorders, identity issues, trauma and loss, and adjustment to life stressors. Furthermore, I specialize in couples therapy and passionately dedicate a good portion of my practice to helping couples reestablish their connection.  Couples in my practice range from newlyweds looking to avoid the pitfalls of marriage to those who have had long-standing marital dissatisfaction.  Both with individuals and couples, I help my clients get to the core issues and establish a sense of hope and confidence that there will be progress.
I’m a transplant from New York City and have had a breadth of experience working in various challenging clinical settings.  Prior to moving to North Carolina, I was in private practice in New York City since 2005. I am currently a member of various professional organizations and participate in evidence-based trainings to enhance my clinical expertise with individuals and couples alike. I’m also bilingual and can conduct therapy in Spanish.
What to Expect:
I have a warm, empathic, and direct style that clients seem to appreciate. I’m also perceptive and hopeful about making change.  I have been in private practice for over 10 years and understand the urgency that clients experience when they begin the therapy process.  Initially, therapy sessions focus on obtaining history and using that information to clarify issues, to detect maladaptive patterns, and to understand how these difficulties impact your well-being.  My clients and I collaborate to define short-term and long-term goals and to determine the length of treatment. During the course of therapy, my goal is to highlight ways in which clients are making strides while helping them navigate the more challenging aspects of therapy.  I truly enjoy supporting my clients and feel very much in their corner.

Therapeutic Approach:
Individuals often enter therapy focused on current issues that cause stress and are counting on practical solutions to improve their well-being. I follow an individualized approach by discussing your goals while tailoring evidence-based interventions to address your concerns. These interventions may include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Relational Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Gottman Model, and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.  I also believe that long-lasting change depends on my clients learning about how early attachment relationships shape current feelings, perceptions, and behaviors.  Therapy that integrates past and present life events helps individuals gain  insight and compassion for themselves and others.  Most often, with this type of support, my clients find the freedom to move forward with greater clarity, confidence and self-awareness.
