Heidi brings a rare passion and enthusiasm to her own life and her work with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She strives to live her life to the fullest and finds joy in helping her clients do the same.
Heidi provides therapy to adolescents and children struggling with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, body-image issues, anger and defiance, criminal behaviors, and loss of a parent or loved one. She works with couples and families who are experiencing communication issues, intimacy concerns, addiction, infidelity, or divorce. She works with adults who are seeking help with stress, depression, anxiety, end-of-life and grief issues, spiritual counseling, career coaching, and weight management.
She has extensive background working within family systems. The dynamics of families, especially blended, can be complicated. Heidi works with children, parents, and couples concerning issues such as communication, trauma, school, abandonment issues, parent-child interactions, conflict resolution, addictions, boundaries, and co-parenting styles. She understands that to make a lasting change in a child or adolescent's life, the family system must work as a whole through support and encouragement.
For the past 15 years, Heidi has helped and supported many, beginning with at-risk youth; involving them in a life-skills program to help distract them from incarceration and provide a path to work through addiction. Added to her advanced listening skills, that work led her to pursue a degree in social work. That pursuit included significant work with adolescents and their families to overcome a wide variety of struggles. Adding to that, Heidi has provided art therapy for teens, served individuals and families psychoeducation, as well as facilitating numerous psychotherapy groups focused on adolescents in residential, day treatment, intensive outpatient, and acute treatment formats. To top it off, Heidi also has experience providing trauma education around trauma for children of all ages and their families.
For all ages, Heidi combines a number of evidence-based strategies to provide the highest-quality counseling experience. Her approach uses Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Client-Centered Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Family Systems Theory, and Existentialism. She is able to incorporate Art Therapy and Play Therapy in her work with children and adolescents.
