Allow me to introduce myself. My full name is Gerthein Swanepoel, but my clients call me Hein. I was born and raised in beautiful South Africa, and had the privilege of living in six different countries throughout my life. After visiting the Rocky Mountains, I knew that I wanted to make Canada my permanent home. I have been providing psychological assessment and counselling services to rural communities throughout Alberta and BC since I started practicing here in 2012. In my spare time I try to make the most of my proximity to the mountains, and you can often find me out skiing, mountain biking, or going on long hikes with my outdoor companion Leia, who is a silver lab.

My professional experience includes working in a wide range of settings such as hospitals, schools, community mental health clinics, employee assistance programs, and private practice. I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families throughout Alberta and BC. I currently provide psychological assessments in Edson and surrounding areas, focusing on psychoeducational assessments for children and adults, parenting and child custody assessments, forensic assessments, and various work-related assessments. I also provide counselling in Edson as an associate of Aspen Counselling Services.

I am a registered psychologist in the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia, and a member in good standing with the Canadian Psychological Association. Academically, I completed a bachelor degree in social sciences, an honor’s bachelor degree in psychology, a master’s degree in counselling psychology, and a master’s degree in business administration. Furthermore, I am currently in the process of completing a doctoral degree in clinical psychology. In addition to my formal academic schooling, I also completed advanced post-graduate training in various areas of psychological testing and assessment.

Please have a look around my page, and feel free to get a hold of me if you have any further questions. The easiest way to reach me is by calling our office at Aspen Counselling Services and asking for a call back from Hein. We answer the phone 24 hours per day, and the number is (780) 728 5997.
