People seek individual counselling for a number of different reasons; whether it is to help with internal challenges such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem, etc., or external challenges such as relationships, work/life balance or struggling with relocation and immigration, counselling can help you gain the tools needed to work through these issues. We will work together to develop realistic and attainable goals, and I will take your lead during the process of achieving them.

I’ve helped individuals experiencing some of the following:
• Anxiety
• Trauma
• Depression
• Stress
• Mood and Personality Disorders
• School/Work Challenges
• Loss of Meaning or Purpose
• Anger Management
• Emotion Regulation
• Parenting Challenges
• Self-esteem/Self-confidence
• Unhealthy or Abusive Relationship
• Immigration/Relocation

I use many different techniques and strategies to help you through life by gaining awareness, finding new ways of communication, learning how to set boundaries and be assertive, developing social skills, and addressing childhood trauma.

When we start a relationship we don't think of, or plan for fighting, conflict and disconnect to put a divide between you and your partner. In a relationship there is bound to be conflict and disagreement, but it is how we handle challenges that can help build up a relationship, or tear it down. Whether these issues have slowly impacted your relationship, or there have been clear events that have put your relationship in question, counselling can be the space you need to figure out your next step.

Couples seek counselling for a number of reasons. Whether it is to maintain a healthy and positive relationship, or because of conflict, infidelity, looking to reconnect after long-distance or when becoming empty-nesters, counselling can help create the safe space needed to have difficult conversations. Sometimes couples are quick to call it quits, when there could be a second chance for the relationship to blossom again after working through the problem.

Issues that can be present during Couples Counselling:
• Communication
• Rebuilding Trust
• Managing Expectations
• Betrayal/Infidelity
• Managing Conflict
• Sex and Romance
• Parenting Issues
• Closeness and Intimacy
• Family Dynamics
• Co-Parenting Strategies
• Affection and Passion
• Stress
• Life Transitions
• Trauma
I work with clients together, but also find that meeting with each person individually helps me learn more about what each individual feels the problems are in the relationship, and it can create a more fluid counselling experience. I like to hear about the strengths in your relationship, your relationship origin story, and where you hope counselling will take you.

Family Counselling creates the space for individuals to come together and discuss their problems and goals for their relationship. There is no such thing as a perfect family. Every family has their own issues with dynamics, expectations, communication and boundaries. Through family counselling each individual can discuss their concerns in a safe space, and learn different techniques, tools and strategies to be able to become closer.
Issues that come up most often in Family Counselling:
• Managing High or Unrealistic Expectations
• Communication
• Crossing Boundaries
• Generational Trauma
• Managing Conflict
• Family Dynamics
• Cross-generational Conflict
• Separation/Divorce and Blended Families
• Co-Parenting
• Grief
• Academic Issues
• Coping Strategies
Often times, Family Counselling can be helpful as an addition to Individual or Couples Counselling. For example, a teen or adult child in Individual Counselling, can then schedule a Family Counselling session with the parent to work through their concerns together, or to bring a family ally to help with coping strategies.

I am a registered member of the Ontario College of Social Work and Social Service Workers, and hold a Masters of Social Work degree from Wilfrid Laurier University. I have over 8 years of experience working closely with children, older adults, and more recently with victims of violence.

It is important to me that the therapeutic relationship be the right fit for the individual, to allow for trust, growth and a successful therapy process. I dedicate myself to understanding the perspectives, experiences and goals of the individual, and meeting them where they are at. I tailor the treatment to fit with the individual(s) and their specific needs, in an inclusive, authentic and down-to-earth manner.

I am passionate about helping individuals through challenging times, and feel privileged to be allowed into the most intimate and difficult times in an individuals life. Building a trusting foundation is my main goal during the first few sessions, so we can work together to outline goals, strengths and work to achieve them.

I use techniques from various therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused therapy, and Strengths-Based Therapy.

I came to Canada at a young age, from Peru, and have lived in the Waterloo Region since then. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, going for walks with my children, watching movies and relaxing with a good book.

I look forward to getting to know you, and help you navigate through this current challenge, so you can live your best life!
