As a Registered Psychologist, I believe that counselling is most effective with a strong client/counsellor relationship. I counsel from an empathic and collaborative approach. My desire is to create a place of emotional safety for my clients. Clients often tell me that they feel comfortable and understood in session.


I believe that clients need to feel better quickly. This is why I start with symptom treatment. I use a variety of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Mindfullness tools to help alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression. Once symptoms begin to decrease it is important to then find the root of what is causing anxiety and depression. If we work at the site of the root and "pluck it" from the root, it is less likely to grow back. I want to see clients free from anxiety and depression. I use Emotion Focused Therapy to accomplish this. 
 
With couples counselling, I work with two of the most evidence based couples counselling theories. I begin with Gottman counselling in order to bring down tensions and increase communication in the relationship. Then, just like individual counselling, I use Emotion Focused Therapy to uncover the root of the relationship trouble. Emotional safety is built within the couple so that we are able to collaboratively work through the deeper root issues in the relationship.
 
I have trained under some of the foremost leaders in counselling in North America. To provide clients with the most current tools in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy I have trained under Dr. David Burns. Training with Sue Johnson in Emotion Focused Therapy has informed my practice in individual as well as couples counselling. I also have completed levels 1 & 2 of Gottman Couples Counselling.

I understand that faith can be an important part of some clients’ lives. Therefore, upon request I can incorporate aspects of faith in the counselling process. If you do not want to include spirituality in your treatment, I believe in respecting client’s needs and will create a treatment plan strictly based upon psychological principles.
 
It is important that the relationship between the client and therapist be strong. In order to help facilitate that I offer a free 20-minute consultation. This can be done over the phone or in person at the office. This will help you know if I am a good fit for you as well as to ask any questions you may have.
