About Me
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). I carry a Master’s in Counselling Psychology (MCP), and I have experience working with a wide array of issues and life situations. I work primarily from EMDR and an Emotion Focused Therapeutic Orientation, but incorporate tools from other frameworks (Mindfulness, Cognitive, and Existential Therapy) as they are effective for helping clients.

Emotion Focused Therapy
I love Emotion Focused Therapy because it incorporates your full range of experience, including physical sensations and emotions you might not even be aware of. This seems to lead to more real and lasting change! Emotion Focused Therapy enables you to fully enter into your experience in a way that allows you to become aware of all its facets, such as that sinking feeling in your stomach. This experiential awareness gives you much more of a sense of control of what is happening to you, and it allows you to reorganize your experience of the world in ways that are more meaningful and helpful for you. Emotion Focused Therapy also explores how our experiences, fears, and emotions shape how we connect with others. It offers us tools to help us relate to others in ways that will bring us more joy and satisfaction.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
I love EMDR because it is the most effective tool I have found for processing trauma…and we ALL have trauma. Whether it is big scale trauma like childhood abuse or more common trauma like a break up, EMDR is amazing! EMDR involves eye movements (not hypnosis) and a very specific protocol that facilitates your experiential processing. It is extremely effective for reducing the negative thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations left by trauma, stressful events, and negative messages. These often turn into anxiety, depression, illness, chronic pain, addiction, and unhealthy behaviours. EMDR gets to the root of the experiences that underlie our troubling symptoms, and helps us to not just be aware of them but actually process and heal from them. Many clients who go through EMDR find their troubling symptoms disappear or dramatically reduced.
