Life often presents us with challenges and changes that can impact our mental health. When this happens, we may need both guidance and encouragement. Jennifer Townsend believes in providing a warm, safe, encouraging, and empowering space to process life’s challenges and changes. She invites clients to utilize their personal strengths as they navigate through those challenges and reach their goals. She believes in taking a collaborative approach to therapy with her clients can best work to achieve those goals. She enjoys working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families to guide and encourage them as they begin to build the life they want for themselves. Jennifer feels honored to experience and be a part of the healing and growing process with her clients.
Jennifer Townsend works with a wide variety of clients who may seek services including, but not limited to anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic attacks, school and family issues, effects of divorce, self-esteem and self-worth issues, self-care trauma and abuse recovery, anger management, boundaries, goal setting, family communication, conflict resolution, child and adolescent development, and creative therapies including art and play therapy
Jennifer Townsend has a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling: Art Therapy from Adler University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Art from Augustana College. She integrates techniques and knowledge from a variety of modalities to fit you and your goals. She primarily utilizes Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and art therapy. Jennifer works to tailor her approach to therapy to best fit the needs of each individual client.
Jennifer Townsend has many years of experience working with children and adolescents in many capacities, including art and play therapy, developing program materials for grief work and developing program materials for promoting positive mental health practices. She also has experience providing counseling to teens, adults, couples, and families to promote healthy communication skills, build self-esteem, cope with life’s stressors, and improve overall mental health.
Jennifer Townsend is a member of multiple professional affiliations including the American Art Therapy Association (AATA), the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), the American Counseling Association (ACA), the American Mental Health Counseling Association (AMHCA), the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD), the Association for Specialists in Group Work (ASGW), the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors (IAMFC), and the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH).
