Meet Jessica Savage-Mitchell, BA., MA., RP.
My name is Jessica Savage-Mitchell and I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
In my private practice, I work with adults, children and youth, survivors of trauma, Canadian Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs members, as well as various EAP providers. I applaud anyone who participates in mental health services because taking that first step is not always easy. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, or are simply feeling overwhelmed, you do not have to go through it alone.
I take a person-centered approach will all of my clients and make sure that we tailor the therapy to what would work best for them and their goals. I use a variety of evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based therapies, and other appropriate counselling modalities.
I graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Laurentian University, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Mental Health & Addictions from Ryerson University and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I have also had the pleasure of supervising new professionals in the field, including Masters-level students as they begin their careers as licensed professionals.
I am an advocate for mental health and hope to rewrite the narrative from “I have to be OK” to “It’s OK to not be OK sometimes”. My goal is to help my clients feel strong, confident and become the authors of their own lives!
A Typical Session
During our first session, we will review the Privacy and Confidentiality Statement, as well as the Client Agreement, and make sure that any/all questions are answered prior to moving forward. It is important to me that you are informed of your rights as a client and we have a collaborative, therapeutic relationship.
Next, we will discuss your presenting concerns and goals for counselling. We will explore a bit of background history as well, if you’re comfortable, and work together to create a plan moving forward that is best suited to you and one that is most effective in helping you reach those goals!
Moving forward, we then work together in a safe, confidential environment to begin your journey to positive mental health. Between-session work (i.e. homework or handouts) may be given to help deepen our discussions and get to the root of the issues, as well as to help practice the learned coping skills in your day-to-day and further tailor them as needed.
After each session, I do provide an invoice that has all the necessary information insurers require for reimbursement and this can be printed, emailed or mailed to you directly for your convenience.
Benefits of Counselling
There are several benefits of counselling and psychotherapy, including increased feelings of well-being, reduced stress, improved interpersonal relationships and cognitive functioning, as well as an overall feeling of security and calm within one’s self.
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions, or would like to discuss any concerns in more detail. I would love the opportunity to get to know you and help be a part of your journey to positive mental health!
