Joanne Irving View Specialties

I received my PhD in psychology in 1983 and have been a practicing psychotherapist for the past 29 years.  I have worked in a variety of settings from a county health department where I was the chief psychologist to a community mental health center to my own private practice which I have run along with my business partner for over 25 years. I have made it my mission to continually develop my skills and so have pursued post graduate training in family therapy, couples therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, gestalt therapy, hypnosis, EMDR, and have attended a wide variety of workshops that addressed special issues such as depression, anxiety, sexual dysfunction, marital affairs, etc.  In addition, I regularly participate in consultation groups where I have received supervision from many wise therapists and consultation from my peers. Through all of this, I strive to continually grow as a person and therapist to bring the highest quality services to my clients.

For the past 12 years, the primary focus of my psychotherapy practice has been couples therapy.  I have made it my mission to be an expert in this area.   So, in addition to my education and experience as a psychologist-psychotherapist, I have taken specialized training in couple’s therapy and am certified as a sex therapist by ASSECT.  I am humbled and honored by the trust my clients have shown me over the years as me I have accompanied them on their journey back to safety and fulfillment in their relationship. I can think of nothing more rewarding.
