Exploration, Communication, and Negotiation

The relationship we have with ourselves is as important as our ability to have a relationship with others.

Overview of Services and Approach
The focus of my practise is working with individuals and couples struggling with communication around evolving sexual desires, "alternative" relationships, kink/BDSM based relationships, and general sexuality. By working with the client to develop collaborative goals and progress, I believe individuals have the power to create their own change. I work from an integrative perspective, and utilize Gottman, Family Systems, Narrative, and Humanistic approaches to counselling through a holistic and feminist point of view. By working from a holistic and integrative approach, I seek to meet clients where they are at, and assist in creating an individualized plan that works for them. Depending on client need and comfort, therapy can be short-term and solution-focused, or long term and centered around processing and acceptance of self and others.

 Sexuality and Sexual-Health
I work with individuals, couples, and families on issues relating to personal sexuality and sexual education. This includes sexual health, sexual dysfunction, and sexual relationships with self and others, as well as exploration, communication, and negotiation between partners. I feel it's imperative that people can have open, honest, and truthful conversations with those important to them, including their partners, children and with themselves. "Sexuality" is about more than your orientation, and when done in a safe space, it can be empowering to learn about our sexual selves.

There is a changing view of monogamy and what it means to be in a committed relationship. Being part of a relationship, you may find some incongruences between what is right or acceptable for each individual. Those in relationships might find their boundaries being pushed or ignored by their partner(s), and are unsure or unable to communicate this. Together, we can work towards a comfortable outcome for all involved by exploring the needs and boundaries of the individual, and of those involved in the relationship.

Other Areas of Focus
In addition to sexuality, I also assist clients with anxiety, depression, emotionality. co-dependency, coping, divorce, infidelity, infertility, life transitions, premarital counselling, sexual addiction, stress, and peer-relationships.

I can offer appointments in Penticton, as well as online (video, email or phone).
