My name is Justin. A member of the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) I am a registered provisional psychologist with over 8 years of experience. I love my job. I love what I do because my work is a point of giving, a place where being me may benefit others in understanding themselves better. My clients offer me an opportunity to give, and in doing the best I can to indiscriminately give them what they need from me, I transform. In continually transforming, my family, friends, and clients alike have benefited from me being more me. Hence the pay-it-forward cycle completes itself.
Inspired by the principles of humanistic psychology, narrative therapy, and attachment theory, my therapeutic approach is built on the premise that our life experiences may be different, but that the lessons are the same. In other words, what one learns about them is true for all. Based on this assumption, I rely on and use what I have learned about myself, my clients, and life in general to guide the people I work with, as best as I currently know how. I achieve this by carefully analyzing my clients’ past experiences and deeply looking into their current life events and stressors to derive logical and intuitive insights into habits of behavior and patterns of relationship. The insights derived from these observations and shared with my clients usually yield a greater understanding of who they are and what their potential can be. Bridging the gap between the client’s actual self and potential self (or real self) and suggesting practical ways to achieve this, which can only be offered by someone who intently listens, is the bulk of what happens in our sessions. Understanding alone leads to greater clarity and wholeness. I believe that, just as food is medicine for the body, understanding is medicine for the mind. Trust your psychological health to someone who actually has the capacity to understand, not to letters after a name.
