Welcome to CENTERED counseling!
Who Are We?We are a group of dedicated and skilled clinicians who strive to help you meet your personal goals.  Our clinicians have decades of experience helping people recover from depression, anxiety, and trauma, form more satisfying relationships with others, and live more meaningful lives.  Each clinician works a bit differently, but we all provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you to share whatever you'd like to share.    What Do We Do?
When you decide to begin counseling (also called therapy) you are undertaking an important journey.  It will not be easy, in fact it is hard work making significant changes in your life.  You begin by calling and making an appointment.  You then will meet with your therapist, who will ask you about yourself and your current situation and struggles.  The therapist will then help you identify some goals for the treatment and develop a plan for meeting those goals.  Most people meet with their therapist for 50-60 minutes once a week.  You will be asked to practice what you learn in session during the week between sessions.

How Long Will I Be in Therapy?
The length of your treatment is determined by you.  Each session you will receive valuable information and tools that you can implement right away, so you will determine when you have reached your goals.  Some people work for 6 weeks on a specific skill or to process a specific event, others work for a longer period of time on more complex or long-standing concerns.

How Does Therapy Work?
Therapy has been shown to work best when you have a desire to change and you feel supported and understood by your therapist.  Therapy can help because you are able to share what's going on for you to an objective and non-judgmental professional who has experience with all types of mental health and relationship challenges.  Some therapists will ask you to focus on your thoughts that lead to distressing emotions, while others will ask you to create imagery or write journal entries to increase your insight into your own emotions, thoughts, and feelings.  You will give your therapist feedback about what works best for you.

Is What I Say in Therapy Private?
In order to allow you to feel comfortable with your therapist, most information you share is held in the strictest confidence, meaning that nothing you say will get back to your spouse, parents, boss, etc.  In a few circumstances involving safety, the therapist may not be able to keep what you say confidential (e.g. if any children, elderly persons, or dependent adults are being harmed), but if this occurs your therapist will talk to you about it right away.  In the first session the limits of confidentiality will be addressed in detail by your therapist and you will have an opportunity to ask questions about this.

How Much Does a Therapy Session Cost?
The cost of therapy varies by clinician and by whether or not you are paying cash or using your health insurance benefits to help cover the costs of therapy.  The cash fee ranges from $160 to $65.  If you are using your health insurance benefit you will be responsible for making sure your insurance will cover the costs and you will be responsible for the copay amount.

Other Questions?
Don't hesitate to call to ask any additional questions you may have about therapy.  It's important to us that you get the help you need, even if it isn't with one of our clinicians.   Call 323.810.9233 for more information.
