A bit about me....
I am a husband & father. I've been married since 2001 and have two school-aged girls. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the other members of our family - Pepper, our family dog, and Olive, a cat we recently rescued. I enjoy outdoor living (camping, boating, hiking) when the weather permits, and playing guitar, reading, playing games, and watching TV series and movies.
Professionally, I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) as well as a Registered Marriage & Family Therapist (RMFT). I am passionate in helping individuals deal with their struggles, whether it be anxiety, depression, PTSD, self-esteem, or grief, to name a few. I also really enjoy helping couples find their way to a better, more fulfilling relationship - one that honors and respects both partners equally.
I really value ongoing learning and see the need to stay on the forefront of research-informed practice. To that end, I am studying part-time to complete my doctorate in Psychology.
While credentials and experience are very helpful in choosing a qualified counsellor, it is equally important to find the right fit in a therapist. "Goodness of fit" means that you feel I am the right choice for what you're needing. While people have a few different ideas and expectations about this, some common themes include feeling respected by me, feeling that I genuinely understand your struggles (or are working hard to understand), and that I have a solid plan to help you get through them.
I use a few different counselling approaches, depending on the person and their situation. When working with individuals, I use a combination of Process Experiential Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), EMDR, and Neurofeedback. With couples, I use a combination of Emotion Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and Gottman Couples Therapy.
