Kim has a passion for working with and supporting people. She is a consummate professional who has been serving families and individuals for over 20 years in family court services in capacities such as; Guardian ad Litem, Juvenile Court Counselor and since 2012 a counselor working in Unalaska’s rural family health clinic where she completed her internship and became Director of Behavioral Health. She is prior military and a retired military spouse with first-hand knowledge of the challenges of being active duty military as well as raising a family while her spouse served our country. She has been privileged to have traveled worldwide and worked with cultures from all over the world. A passion further fueled while working at one of the largest international ocean seaports on the Bering Sea where she worked with people from all over the US and internationally. She is keenly aware of the unique challenges of Alaska rural life, working, living and raising families in the last frontier.

Kim Honan has been married over 3 decades to a man she considers her best friend. She and spouse have weathered many challenges to their relationship over the years to include: long separations due to military deployments taking its toll on intimacy and friendship; difficulties managing conflict, financial decisions and disciplining of children; PTSD’s impact on their relationship; and the stress of dealing with a child’s health issues. Her wealth of personal experience, passion to support relationships along with professional training and experience helps individuals, couples and families with a desire to grow in and improve their relationships but are not sure of how or where to begin. Kim is grounded in the importance of integrated health care and assessing overall health and functioning to include physical health, nutrition and the external impact of stress on mental health. With a client’s guidance she develops a plan personally suited to them. She is trained in various therapies depending on an individual’s, couple, or family needs and preferences to include: Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative therapy, Gottman Couples Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy a unique therapy particularly suited to issues related to trauma. She has a Master’s Degree from Amridge University and is an Alaska Licensed Marriage Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor and board certified in Tele-Mental Health. Areas of expertise are: Anxiety, Grief, Depression, Addictions, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, Trauma, Military families, Low self-worth, Individual Counseling, Couples Counseling, Pre-Marital Counseling as well as Family Counseling.
