I am Kindra L. Westercamp, a licensed clinical psychologist in Charleston, South Carolina providing psychotherapy to adolescents and adults in a warm environment. I find meaning and purpose in my work as a therapist, and I strive to help my clients enliven their potential and live a life that they value. I aspire to create an environment that will allow my clients to gain greater understanding/clarity, acceptance, courage, hope, balance, and serenity. I work collaboratively with my clients to help them reach their goals, navigate through painful or trying times, and achieve greater fulfillment in their lives. I have a special interest in treating individuals who struggle with managing anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationships, and body image issues. It is my hope that through our work together you will emerge feeling more confident, capable, peaceful, and lively. Therapy is a journey, and I would feel privileged if you would allow me the opportunity to embark on that journey with you.
I received my B.S. in psychology from Iowa State University where I graduated with honors. I went on to pursue my doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois. During my graduate training, I completed externships at a community family mental health center, Advocate Illinois Masonic Behavioral Health Services, and Northwestern Univeristy Healthsystem. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at Vanderbilt University Psychological Counseling Center, as well as Vanderbilt University Department of Veterans Affairs, where I gained specialized experience working with couples, as well as individuals who present with trauma and anxiety. I completed my post-doctoral fellowship at the College of Charleston Counseling and Substance Abuse Services. In addition to private practice I also serve as a clinical supervisor and an adjunct professor of psychology at College of Charleston.
My Therapeutic Style
I attempt to bring my creativity, humor, authenticity, and spontaneity into the therapeutic space. I care deeply for each of my clients and will work as hard as you do to help you achieve your goals for therapy. A strong therapeutic alliance is integral to the work we will do; therefore, it is necessary that we both assess whether or not we are well-suited to embark on this journey together. I have a strong foundation in cognitive-behavioral therapy, but my work with you will be informed by an integration of relevant modalities, including psychodynamic psychotherapy and acceptance and commitment therapy. I have received specialized training in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), both evidenced-based treatments to help reduce symptoms of PTSD. I have additionally received training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman’s Method, both treatment approaches for couples therapy. We will work together to identify the treatment approach that is best suited to meet your unique needs.
