The good life is a process, not a state of being.
It is a direction, not a destination.
-Carl Rogers
Working with a licensed therapist can provide the objective and professional feedback needed to assist in defining challenges, developing goals, and working toward positive change.
Benefits of therapy may include improved and more satisfying relationships, increased energy and productivity, and feelings of well-being.
I believe it's important to be compassionate with ourselves as we face challenges and that within each challenge there is an opportunity for growth. Each person comes to therapy with a different background and with different experiences which is why I use one or a combination of these strategies.
I partner with clients to access their strengths allowing them to gain insight and find solutions. I employ compassion and humor while helping clients reach their personal goals.
I believe the therapeutic relationship is the most important aspect of a successful experience in therapy. I work to build a safe, non-judgmental, and trusting environment for clients to explore their issues.

I have been in private practice for many years helping individuals meet their therapy goals, overcome their difficulties, and living the lives they want.  I've helped people with a variety of concerns including building self-esteem, increasing coping skills to decrease anxiety and depression, learning how to have the most satisfying relationships, assessing issues around alcohol and/or drug use, learning to manage OCD, grief, loss, illness, infertility, weight issues and many other barriers to having their best lives.
Before opening my private practice in 2009, I provided individual and group counseling to women in a transitional housing program, Families in Transition, as well as worked with clients struggling with substance abuse at Merrimack River Medical Services, a substance abuse treatment center. I have been providing therapy in a variety of settings since 2001.
These are the areas I specialize in:
Anxiety DisordersSelf-Esteem IssuesTroubled relationships or other issues due to an alcoholic loved one (codependency) Relationship IssuesWeight LossCompulsive OvereatingAlcohol AbuseGrief and LossInfertility
I use several therapy strategies to assist clients in meeting their goals:
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)Mindfulness BasedMotivational Interviewing Positive PsychologySolution-Focused TherapySupportive Therapy
At our first session I will ask questions about you and your presenting problem as well as your family, medical, and social history to better understand why you're coming to therapy. We will also discuss any current or recent symptoms. The goal of the first few sessions is to learn as much about you as possible and identify what you're hoping to get out of coming to therapy as well as building the therapeutic relationship. After gathering information and completing your initial assessment, I will provide feedback on what I think will be the most effective treatment for you, including therapy strategies and frequency of treatment.

Each session will last 45 minutes.  After we have decided on a time to meet I will be sending you a new client information email with everything you need to know about coming to your first session, including directions, how to get into my office building, and what to bring with you.

Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions. -Dalai Lama
