Lisa A. Butcher, MACP, RCC #16843
Lisa Butcher is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.  She holds a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University in New Brunswick and a Bachelors Degree in Physical and Health Education from the University of Toronto.
For the past 15 years Lisa has worked with patients and families dealing with crisis and trauma in frontline healthcare. She has over a decade of experience working with both youth and adults experiencing physical and mental health issues.
Lisa takes an empathic, integrative approach to counselling.  She is passionate about treating individuals, couples and families.  She strives to understand how each person's values, beliefs, and behaviours impact the family unit as a whole.  She has a professional interest in Emotional Regulation, Identity, Children, and Family Dynamics.
Specifically she focuses her practice on how these factors are both contributive and protective in the development of physical and mental health issues.  She specializes in treating the following issues in youth, adolescents, and adults.
Lisa uses several treatment methodologies to treat a wide-range of issues.  These issues include Anxiety, Depression, Eating Disorders, Self-Harm, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Workplace Trauma, Relationship issues and Child behavioral issues.
The methods used to treat these issues include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR).
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a method of psychotherapy directed toward teaching clients skills to modify dysfunctional thinking and behavior.  CBT works under the assumption that the way in which an individual perceives a situation is more closely related to their reaction than the situation itself.
EMDR is a psychotherapeutic technique originally developed by Francine Shapiro.  It works by identifying root causes of psychopathology in the form of previously stored disturbing past memories.  The process includes identifying negative core beliefs and their association with disturbing past memories.  EMDR can alleviate symptoms of PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) by helping the client process the disturbing memories, reduce the lingering effects of past traumatic experiences, and develop adaptive coping mechanisms.  Lisa uses EMDR to treat front-line healthcare
workers, 911 First Responders, and Physicians.  She was trained by Roy Kiessling who is an EMDRIA approved Senior Trainer for the developer of EMDR, Francine Shapiro.
