I am passionate about working with women that have survived trauma or abuse and those that support them. My goal is to provide you with a place where you can find some new ways of coping with the stress that life is throwing your way, and then exploring some the reasons why you might be feeling stuck so that you can be the person that you are wanting to be.

I have always wanted to be a person that could help others find ways to cope with what life has thrown at them, and eventually find healing. It took me a while to get to do this in a formal way, but I feel like my life experiences have helped shape who I am as a person and therapist. I initially got married very young and had three children in a very short time span while moving around a fair amount. Life was full! After 10 years, my marriage ended and I found herself in my first formal counselling relationship. I found my counsellor to be understanding, empathetic, and yet he pushed me to learn things about myself I had never acknowledged before. He also helped me to make changes in my life and how I did relationships. I now take the same approach to the work that I do with my clients.

After being a single mom for 6 years, I remarried a man who was also divorced with one child. I slowly began to upgrade her education so that I could pursue a counselling degree when we were surprised with another child! I experienced a sense of loss of the way that I thought life would be...again...worked through some postpartum depression, and had to go through some grieving. My education dream was put on hold for 5 years as I stayed home to raise our daughter. When I was finally able to pursue my dream, I completed my Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology. I found myself drawn to the training on trauma and how to be a trauma-informed counsellor. As a result of my life experience and the training I have received, I love working with clients who have survived traumatic experiences in their lives because I believe every person should be able to have someone who sees it as survival and strength. My hope is that each client that walks out of my door feels like someone has heard them, equipped them, and that they have a voice as a result!

I am registered as a Registered Clinical Counsellor through the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors and as a Canadian Certified Counsellor through the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association. I am also registered to provide counselling services through the BC Criminal Victims Assistance Program (CVAP) which provides those that have survived a crime to receive professional counselling either for free or at an extremely reduced rate.

I love learning and have participated in a number of additional training opportunities. These are:

Level 2 in Gottman Method Couples Therapy - which provides a good structure for working with couples that is based on years of research by John & Julie Gottman from Seattle.
Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples - which helps me to help couples identify what their need is underneath the arguments and discomfort.
When Love Hurts - this group therapy follows the book by the same title, and provides women with information about the cycle of abuse, and how to find healing and support after an abusive relationship
Level II of Observed and Experiential Integration therapy - which helps people, especially those that have survived trauma or abuse in their past, to process some of their memories and experiences without having to talk about it.
