COVID-19 Concerns ... Online/Video and Phone Counselling:
At this challenging time, I am offering Zoom, Skype and phone sessions, as well as expanded hours.  Please call or email me for details.
Education and Experience:
I have a Master’s Degree in Counselling and I am nationally certified by the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). I have a rich background of over 20 years in counselling, educational settings and therapy.
I believe that any situation is best addressed in a spirit of empathetic, non-judgmental collaboration. My goal is to come alongside individuals, couples and families to create conditions for healing, growth and resilience.  We may not be able to control the external events in our lives or the choices and actions of people around us, but we can choose to respond to people and events in ways that empower us, regardless of the situation we face. We can work together to develop the skills and the perspective to manage any circumstance that presents itself.  I love to come alongside people to listen and facilitate their own unique path toward empowerment and wholeness.
I generally work from a psychodynamic, existential framework that is at all times person-centred and solution focused.  I have taken additional training in a number of well researched, empirically supported therapies that I believe offer you the best tools, techniques and pathways toward understanding yourself, your situation, your relationships and your unique context. I believe in working from a person-centred, solution-focused approach in order to collaboratively customize a therapeutic plan to best suit your unique situation and concern.
Additional Training:
EMDR or Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing:  EMDR is a cutting edge therapy that is one of the most well-researched and empirically supported therapies for treating trauma.  EMDR is a technique that can benefit many people to overcome the lasting and troubling affects of trauma. It is also proving very effective in the treatment of addiction, as well as other counselling concerns.
Emotionally Focused Therapy:  EFT is a result of the research and work of Canadian psychologist, Dr Susan Johnson.  Her work has revolutionized the way couples' therapy has been approached in the past two decades.  Based on sound research on attachment theory together with research on how intimate partnerships actually work, EFT therapy works to first de-escalate and then identify the negative cycles of disconnection in which many couples feel trapped.  Then, couples can work toward reconnection and better communication.  This is a relatively short term therapy of approximately 8-20 sessions.
The Gottman Method:   John and Julie Gottman have also done extensive research in the area of intimate partnerships to develop a very effective and targeted approach to couples' work. The Gottman Method offers an extensive 'Relationship Check-up' and then targeted strategies to address your unique relationship challenges.
Reality Therapy:   Reality therapy is a behaviourally based, short term, solution focused therapy that has many applications.  It is targeted and short term in approach.
Session Fees and Structure:
  • Individual Fees: 60 minute individual sessions are $110,  and a 90 minute individual sessions are $155 (GST is NOT included).
  • For Couples and Family work: 60 minute session is $135 and a 90 minute session is $180 (GST is NOT included).
  • 90 minute sessions can be very fruitful, especially if you are not able to come for weekly appointments to start.
  • Please keep in mind that your initial appointment will be a 90 minute Intake for assessment purposes.  At the end of the Intake appointment, I share my ideas for the way forward, and then we can collaborate to create a plan regarding how to proceed.
