My first degree is in Communication Sciences and Disorders obtained from Southwest Missouri State University. I practised in Winnipeg for a number of years working with traumatic injury and helping people regain their speech and ultimately their self-worth. I grew in love with the art of counselling and therefore pursued a doctoral degree in Psychology. I am a registered psychotherapist since 2009. I now realize this is what I was always meant to do.

I am married and a mother of three children, including two teenagers. I understand the challenges that many families have in child-rearing and disciplining. With this comes the challenges of maintaining close relationships, with your spouse, children, friends and family. In these busy times, I understand how achieving a balance between work and family becomes our greatest obstacle.

Somehow in trying to become the best in these insurmountable roles, we start to lose our own identity. We forget what makes us tick. What our own needs and longings are. Unbeknownst to us, insecurities about our decisions and actions surface on what seems to be a daily basis, and we begin to second guess our every thought and action. We find ourselves longing for the way we 'use to be' and crave the simplicity we once had. Relationships deteriorate, we become anxious, and lose hope.

I focus my skills on helping clients regain their self-worth. To not live in the negative cycle of self-hatred. To wake up everyday and see the beauty that each day brings. To see how each of us has a real purpose in life and relish in the challenge. To not take each day for granted and in fact - be thankful for those 'normal days'.

I love helping couples embrace conflict with all the challenges it brings, and understand that conflict is very healthy and normal. Conflict brings out emotion, and emotion is what keeps us connected to one another. I embrace the work of Sue Johnson, the founder of emotionally focused therapy. In conjunction to her work, I use the Gottman Method of Couple Therapy and provide individuals with practical tools to handle conflict. I help partners move forward in their relationship; whether these relationships are with co-workers, family members, or friends. I teach forgiveness, but also remind those that forgiveness only comes when one feels safe. We all need to feel safe in order to forgive. Forgiveness is a true gift to ourselves.

I am a Christian counsellor. What does this mean to me personally? It means that, if I sense my client is searching for answers that involve a longing to connect spiritually, then I feel confident in guiding my client towards their inner spiritual longing and direction. I, in no way, force a person to connect to any specific spiritual beliefs or practices.
