Mary Fulford-Winsor Registered Psychotherapist, CTP Dipl, RP, MFA
Psychotherapist: Individuals and Couples, Clinical Member and President CAPT
A brief introduction
involved in psychotherapy for the past eighteen years and have been working
extensively with individuals and couples for the past eight years. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the CRPO, Clinical member and President of The Canadian
Association of Psychodynamic Therapists (CAPT), and a graduate of the six year
training program at The Centre for Training in Psychotherapy (CTP Dipl) I
also have a MFA (Master of Fine Arts) degree and over 30 years’ experience in
the visual, performing and fine arts as a designer, manager, mentor and teacher. I have additional training in working with couples in several modalities including EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy, ICEEFT) and with individuals and couples in sex therapy (University of Guelph). While I work with many artists and professionals within the arts, my
practice is by no means exclusive. My clients come from a broad
cross-section of the community. If you are at a time of transition in your life
or would like to experience change then this may be the time to explore
What type of therapy do I practice?
I am a psychodynamic
psychotherapist, drawing from the relational and psychoanalytic modalities. This
means that we will work together (‘relational’) and when appropriate, a possible explanation (‘analytic’) will
be offered to you about what is happening in the moment we
are discussing or find ourselves in (‘psychodynamic’).
As an individual, you will have the opportunity to bring in any concern that you might have in any way that you can best express yourself: current experiences with others, anxieties within yourself, sexual issues, creative concerns, behavioural tendencies that you or others have commented upon, your dreams, fantasies or fears, how your thoughts, emotions or body is reacting and how you are responding right now in the therapy.
In working with couples (couples therapy/marriage counselling), I draw
primarily from the EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) and psychodynamic modalities. EFT has been
shown to be highly effective in short-term work (12-15 sessions depending upon
a couples' needs) and psychodynamic work can be explored more thoroughly if you have the opportunity to explore a longer term therapy. We will look at the cycles that you, as a couple, are
engaged in and will explore the ways in which you are currently communicating.
Together, we will learn what is happening and discover different ways that you
can communicate with each other.
‘No Fee’ Introductory Session
While it is important to find the right type
of therapy to meet your needs, it is essential to find the right therapist to work
with. I offer a ‘no fee’ introductory session so that you can see if I am the
right therapist for you: it is the only way to truly have a sense of whether we
might be the right fit.
I look forward to hearing from you.
