Mental Health in Welland

Welland, Ontario is located directly in the center of Niagarain fact, it usually takes less than a half an hour to reach Niagara Falls. It is a beautiful city with a population of a little more than 50,600 people living there.2 It is an area that has many things to do and frequently hosts interesting and exciting events to keep the community involved and active.

Despite many efforts, however, there are still mental health concerns in this area. In fact, some studies are currently being conducted to test mental health and find what causes mental illnesses in this specific area. Some mental concerns that this area has faced are substance abuse, violence (which can be a result of deeper mental illness, such as anger problems or bipolar disorder), and developmental disorders such as Aspergers or Autism.3

Current Education

In addition to having many different resources available to help with mental illness, the community is also working to prevent future problems. Prevention can start young, as children, and proper education is often a key to healthier communitiesfor this reason, the area has many schools and learning facilities that will help to educate the population for years to come. The Welland area has an amazing public library that is open for anyone who needs it; there they host events that are both educational and engaging.4 This is a great step to helping the entire community. Currently, a wide portion of the area has not been able to extend their education after high school, but they thrive to continue learning. There are constantly new opportunities for people of all ages.
