Murray is a Licensed/Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists. He is also a member of the Psychologist Association of Alberta. He owns and operates his own independent and private practice, Alberta Counselling Services, and specializes in individual and couple counselling.
Murray works collaboratively with his clients to bring about the changes they would like to make. He often uses a three part model to facilitate these changes. This includes looking at difficult feelings a person may be struggling with to help learn why they are there and to potentially deal with or eliminate them permanently, often reducing or ending the need for medications. Difficult or unwanted thoughts are dealt with as are the core values a person or couple may have that are causing problems. Often people also lack the skills to make the changes they want for example trying to be more assertive or less angry, which are also addressed. He promotes accurate insight into the underlying reasons or root causes for why things are the way they are. Finally, he facilitates the expression of new skills and behaviors in relationships so couples can have the better life they desire.
For couple counselling, Murray uses the above skills and often helps couples become more emotionally supportive and connected to each other which can make working issues out much easier. This approach can bring about significant changes in finding a more positive, committed, long-term relationship.
Murray has been in practice about 22 years and draws on a variety of personal experience as well as theory in guiding his practice.
