I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors. I am a mother of three, have a wonderful husband and am avid adventurer of the local mountains.
I have experience in the assessment and treatment of a broad range of psychological issues, including depression & anxiety, eating disorders, addictions and trauma/PTSD. I also have experience providing clinical services for people experiencing chronic sadness, high stress, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), transitional life issues (i.e. bereavement, occupational), relationship issues, and other life adversities.
My treatment approach incorporates the use of evidence-based cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) & mindfulness techniques, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) as well as dialectical-behavioral, solution-focused and narrative therapeutic techniques. My background includes experience in a variety of roles and settings, with previous work and training experiences including work in hospitals in remote areas of Australia, in townships of South Africa, safe houses for exploited women in Nepal, juvenile detention centres, in residential treatment centres, in post-secondary institutions, in youth group homes, in community mental health agencies and in small private practice settings.
I have worked with children, youth, adults and families. My academic and clinical placement hours took place in Canada, South Africa and Australia. I have diverse experiences facilitating therapy and educational groups for adolescents and adults. I have also worked many years as a clinical educator in international mental health settings in Cambodia, Nepal and India. My diverse experiences, genuine and caring nature and drive to assist individuals in finding and living their whole-hearted selves, is what makes my practice unique and effective.
My work primarily includes assisting individuals who are looking to find functional solutions to persistent presenting problems and challenging life circumstances. I specialize in depression and anxiety, eating disorders, trauma, and addictions. I have a nine-year accumulation of specialized training in these areas and other wide-ranging issues.
It has been my personal goal to understand insights into helping individuals overcome unwanted thoughts, feelings and behaviours. I endeavour to help my clients cultivate new behaviors whereby they can change the course of their lives by changing how they think about their lives, thus changing the way they feel. I believe my work in various countries and here in BC, has allowed me to develop a rich sense of human integrity and understanding of individual needs.
