My original interest in becoming a psychotherapist stemmed from a sense that nothing could be more fulfilling than helping people pull themselves out of depression, anxiety and emotional turmoil into a sense of well being
with a feeling of purpose and worth.  I have been blessed since 1985 to have worked with thousands of people, to overcome their fears, doubts, and  self-defeating thoughts while finding their inner strength to face life with assurance and hope instead of despair.
After obtaining my Bachelors Degree in Psychology at Cal State Fullerton, I went on to get my Masters Degree in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling at La Verne University in California.  In 1985 I became
licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist.  It was a challenge, but well worth it.
My two year internship was with Mental Health, and then onto several years with a county contract agency.
Since that time I have worked for several private agencies and spent several years doing social work as well.
The last fifteen years I have had my own private practice, which also included online counseling.
My experiences include working with all age groups, individuals, couples and families dealing with a multitude of issues.  The approach I use is a combination of rational-emotive therapy, cognitive-behavioral and solution focused.  There is a need to also explore early childhood experiences to understand the internal messages that affect current behaviors.   My position is to be an active listener while providing valuable feedback and support.  My approach is to offer support and encouragement while also challenging clients to make necessary changes in their behaviors to obtain results that bring about constructive changes in their lives.  I often suggest homework assignments to work on altering behavior patterns that have proven to be destructive to their well being.  Goals are always set by the client as to what they want to get out of counseling.
I teach communication skills, conflict resolution and anger management skills.   When there is an issue of high stress I teach stress management, including deep breathing, focusing, and mindfulness.  There is always an emphasis on finding a more balanced productive life.  Positive affirmations are often recommended.
I have specialized in relationship counseling, but have years of experience working with depression, anxiety, panic disorders, and low self-esteem issues.  Assertion skills and setting boundaries are also a part of therapy along with
finding your purpose.
It is my goal to help you to be empowered and reach your potentials.
