Congratulations on taking the first step toward healing and growth!
I have over 18 years of professional counseling experience working with individuals, couples, and families. I will help you through the struggles of everyday life, offering developmental and instructional interventions as well as encouragement in a caring, therapeutic relationship. I offer a steadying influence during a crisis and will help you make long term changes toward a healthier and more productive life.
I have experience and training in helping people deal with traumatic experiences and the many manifestations of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I am a Level II EMDR Therapist (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and I utilize TFT (Thought Field Therapy), Art Therapy, and Play Therapy to help adults, teens, and children process trauma. I bring a wealth of experience in couples/marital counseling, pre-marital counseling, sexuality issues, infertility concerns, parenting challenges, blended families, adoptive and foster parenting, child and adolescent issues, violence or abusive patterns, addictions, co-dependency, divorce recovery, men's issues, career changes, death and grieving, spiritual/religious issues, stress, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, weight issues, eating disorders, sleep disorders, trauma and abuse recovery, alcohol abuse, and substance abuse.
My specialized training and certifications include Master Family Therapist IV, Taylor Johnson Temperament Analysis, Prepare and Enrich 2000, Meyer’s Briggs Temperament Indicator, American Association of Christian Counselors Regional and World Conferences, EMDR Level II Therapist, Critical Incident Stress Management, and Marital Therapy: A Research-Based Approach through the Gottman Institute.
I hold a Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Master’s Degree in Counseling. My passion and expertise as well as life experience as a husband and father have developed within me a heart for people who are hurting.
I have been married to my wife Karen since 1977 and we have five adult children and three grandchildren who live in various parts of the country. In the past, we have worked with couples through what we call “The Heart of Marriage”, a weekend seminar that encourages couples to focus on one another and strengthen their relationship so they can weather the storms of life. I enjoy the outdoors, backpacking, rock climbing, rappelling, white water rafting, and fishing.
