Prior to opening my private practice, I worked with children and
adolescents in several different capacities and settings. I led groups and saw individual clients on
behalf of the Austin Center for Attitudinal Healing, the YWCA, Travis County
Juvenile Court, Covington Middle School, Clint Small Middle School, Mendez
Middle School, Crockett High School, Travis High School, GENaustin, Rio Grande
Counseling Center, and Settlement Home, a residential treatment center for
children who are survivors of abuse and neglect. Working with
clients who have experienced trauma, grief and loss, behavior problems, and difficulty managing their intense emotions, has
strengthened my belief in our ability as human beings to face extremely
difficult life circumstances and hardships and come to terms with them. In
response to the challenges they face, sometimes children and adolescents engage
in inappropriate or unsafe behaviors or express their anger in ways that puts
themselves or others at risk. I work with my clients and their families in the context of a safe
space so that they can get their lives back on track and move forward.
Play therapy gives me the opportunity
to develop a relationship with my younger clients and learn more about their world. Children process their challenging experiences through play.
I work with kids who have ADHD, anger management issues, and a variety of behavioral issues. I teach kids that they experience rewards or consequences based on the choices they make. I ask parents to look for patterns. I help kids create lists of coping skills. I provide accountability.
After having the opportunity to
collaborate with parents and help them get their children back on track, I
found that I enjoy parent coaching. I have guided many families through
contested divorces and helped them learn to co-parent and focus on what's best for their
I support adults who are in the process of navigating life-changing events and hardships or who are seeking a new path for other reasons. We look at how they ended up
where they are and we work together to create a new path that is more meaningful and more fulfilling.
Regardless of age or circumstances, I help each of my clients find his or her own voice.
