Who am I?
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 25 years of experience working with children and families. I began my professional life with a five-year tenure as a teacher at Pinson Valley High School in Pinson, Alabama. After several years of focused investment in my own children, I began working with the children and families of Shades Valley Community Church. I served as the Children's Ministry Coordinator for that congregation for 4 years before deciding to apply to graduate school. While pursuing my Masters in Counseling, I served as a counselor for abused and neglected children and their parents at The Prescott House in Jefferson County, AL. I also gained invaluable experience as a grief counselor to families during my internship at The Amelia Center at Children's of Alabama. My education, training and experience have led me to start Sparrow Counseling in Birmingham, AL and practice a philosophy of therapy that values understanding, expression, and healing for individuals, couples and families. I welcome any opportunity to facilitate both recovery from trauma and rediscovery of hope for my clients whatever their age or story.
 My Counseling Philosophy?
My philosophy and practice of therapy are profoundly shaped by my personal faith in Christ, but I always defer to the client to determine the role of spirituality in their personal therapeutic plan. It is important to me that our relationship is a safe, collaborative one.  At the beginning of counseling, we will create some goals, which includes what you would like to change, and what you and I can work on to help you change. These goals help us know if what we are doing is working for you. However, whatever the plan for our time together, the goal is always the same: empowering lives, strengthening families and rediscovering hope.

Why did I name my practice Sparrow Counseling?
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:29-31

This verse inspired not only the name of my practice, Sparrow Counseling, but the mission as well. It is my goal and heart’s desire to help people understand their worth and value amidst even their deepest, darkest struggles. Jesus gently commands us to not be afraid. He reminds us that even the sparrow is taken care of daily and He will most certainly not forget us as we are worth far more to Him.
