Sarah’s primary approach to therapy is to come alongside someone as they go through their journey of life. She incorporates humor and empathy in her sessions. Sarah places an emphasis on individual strengths in all of her interactions, both in and out of therapy. Her clinical training and education consisted of utilizing insight-oriented therapy, strengths-based perspective, and person-centered techniques. Clients who need time to simply ‘be’ in their pain are provided with active listening and a warm presence from Sarah. When clients need a more directive approach, Sarah provides tools and skills to assist them during emotional crises. At the end of the day, Sarah views sessions as simply an open conversation between two individuals.
Sarah believes that there is no situation in which she cannot provide the type of emotional support that people need to help them through life. She entered the field of mental health after realizing at a young age that everyone has a story and often times they need the opportunity to tell it to someone that will listen in an open and accepting manner. After witnessing many people be alone in their suffering, and seeing how they’ve benefitted from having a kind ear and shoulder to cry on, Sarah knew that counseling was the field she was meant to be in.
Sarah is an unbiased and non-judgmental listener. Every person has their struggles, and should be accepted no matter what they are going through. She provides an environment that allows her clients to step out of negative thinking and define a new, more beneficial future for themselves. With a strong connection to her inner-child, Sarah has a unique ability to connect with adolescents while assisting parents in the sometimes-overwhelming process of helping their child. On the other end of the spectrum, she thoroughly enjoys working with adults of various ages as they struggle with life adjustments and decisions that can make them feel as though they have hit a wall.
Sarah has worked in inpatient settings with children, adolescents, and adults. This experience gave her knowledge in anxiety and depressive disorders, trauma, and forms of psychosis. In addition, she has also gained extensive experience in outpatient practices and developing long-term relationships with clients.
