Meet Sarah Rodgers, MA, LMFT, RDT. Sarah has a background as an actor and theater educator. It was her passion for the cathartic power of self-expression that led her to psychology and to studying the application of creative forms for therapeutic means. She believes we could all use little more fun and playfulness in our lives, and healing is only enhanced by creative thinking and a touch of humor.

Sarah is particularly passionate about empowering women and young adults to live their best lives and has specific experience with:

   Women's Issues

  • healthy boundaries
  • work-life balance
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • relationships

  • addiction
  • trauma
  • depression
  • self-esteem
  • school issues

  • communication skills
  • blended families
  • step-parenting
  • conflict

  • conflict
  • disconnection
  • trust
  • communication
  • goals and teamwork

Sarah believes every client is the expert on themselves and encourages clients' active participation in order to achieve change, sometimes offering homework, such as journaling, meditation, or other supportive practices. When working with clients, Sarah is, above all, an individualist - she tailors her approach to each unique person. Sarah brings a relaxed and intuitive tone to the therapy room. She is compassionate, playful, and also direct and challenging.
As for her clinical approach, Sarah is eclectic, often drawing on concepts including:
  • Mindfulness
  • DBT (Dialectial Behavior Therapy)
  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)
  • Psychodynamic
  • Narrative
  • Family Systems

Sarah also utilizes Art and Drama Therapy techniques, which encourage playfulness, a different perspective, and mind-body processing and integration.

Creative therapies access the intuitive and instinctive, feeling parts of our brains and can be particularly effective for circumventing our "same old" stories and habits and accessing something new in order to create healing. These approaches require zero creative aptitude or experience, only an open mind and a willingness to try. Sarah believes strongly in the cathartic, supportive effects of Drama and Art Therapy and would love to share it with you.

  • Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Drama Therapy from California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco
  • Bachelor's in Theatre and Community Outreach from Skidmore College
  • Registered Drama Therapist (RDT) with the North American Drama Therapy Association.

When not attending to her clients or furthering her clinical education, Sarah enjoys hiking, yoga, cooking, taking acting classes, making crafty things, and quality time with her friends and family. She also offers workshops and trainings in Drama Therapy around Nashville whenever she gets the chance. Sarah has called both New York City and San Francisco home, and she is happy to be settled in Nashville with her husband, stepdaughter, and their dog Dennis.
