There is no doubt that life can be very difficult and that it hits the hardest when we least expect. Sometimes, those blows bring us to our knees and leave us with cuts, bumps and bruises. The issue is not so much in trying our hardest not to get hit (because ultimately, no matter how hard we try, life does happen), the issue however is, how do we get back up from the "boxing ring canvas" and fight back. Counselling gives us a way to do just that.
These cuts and bruises are sometimes opportunities for us to step into a world of possibilities, a life of healing and reconciliation. As a therapist who prioritizes the therapeutic relationship and practices from a relational psychoanalytic perspective while using interpersonal neurobiology to inform treatment, my goal is that everyone who walks into my office for support will not only have the tools they need to get back up but also the insight and understanding required to effectively develop a shield that will help soften subsequent blows.
