Do you feel how you want to feel? Have you experienced past, present or current adversity? Are daily responsibilities feeling overwhelming, underwhelming or difficult? No issue is too big or too small for therapy. Finding a therapist that you feel connected to and safe with is extremely important in laying a foundation for success. I am passionate about developing a strong therapeutic alliance and creating a safe space for vulnerability and openness. A balance of nurturance and directness within the therapeutic relationship is also important for progress and resolution.

Philosophy on therapy
Therapy is a space for you and your therapist to create goals that will support your current needs. My individualized, strengths-based approach focuses on empowering individuals, couples and/or families to successfully complete therapy goals while simultaneously making progress in healing, self-determination, autonomy and/or personal growth. Therapy does not need to be a lifelong commitment; in fact my philosophy is that each session has purpose that brings you one step closer to accomplishing your goals. For some that may take months, for others weeks. Regardless, I will ensure that you are feeling therapy is useful, helpful and progressing in the manner you would like it to. My goal for you in therapy is to help you to increase your ability to cope independently with challenges, adversity or trauma you have experienced.

Experience and Education
I have been working with adolescents, adults and family systems with mental health issues as well as chemical use issues for 5 years. I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) as well as several other evidenced-based therapy modalities to treat a variety of mental health symptoms. I completed my Masters of Social Work at the University of Southern California in December of 2014.

Specialties
Some of my specialities include but are not limited to depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, borderline personality traits/disorder, suicidal ideation, self-harm, relationship issues, family conflict, trauma, self-esteem and self-worth.

What is a trauma?
The word trauma often comes with stereotypes that suggest a person must have experienced some type of abuse, neglect or maltreatment however the human brain does not operate this way. There are many life events that can elicit a trauma response in a human brain; divorce (for any of the family members involved), bullying, a stressful experience at work, a disruption in a relationship and anything that "feels too much, too fast, too soon" for the brain. These experiences require therapeutic treatment to adequately reprocess the events to ensure the event does does not develop or maintain unhelpful/unhealthy beliefs related to how one feels about themselves, the world and other people. There is no exhaustive list of traumatic events; trauma is a response in the brain to a distressing life event.

It can feel uncomfortable to start the process of finding, coordinating and meeting with a therapist. In order to ensure that I am the best fit for you, I offer a free initial consultation to identify strengths, needs and/or goals for therapy. If it so happens we are not a match for therapy, I will provide you with resources to find the best therapist for you.
