I have always wanted to be a Psychologist. I obtained my B.A. from Lafayette College in Psychology, then I earned my M.A. from Radford University in 1979. My first full-time job was at a Community Mental Health Center in Ohio. After gaining some valuable experience there, I moved to Altoona where I worked at the Mental Health Center. I was lucky to have had the opportunity to work with such a wide variety of clients, and to have had such excellent supervisory experiences. I then worked at Cove Forge - an inpatient drug and alcohol rehab in Williamsburg, PA. I was then able to be certified as an addictions counselor, in addition to being a Licensed Psychologist. I began my private practice in 1987 at 304 Frankstown Rd. in Altoona. I do individual, couples, group, and family therapy. I also do psychological testing for evaluating intelligence, personality, and vocational skills. I have done consulting in prisons and rehabilitation facilities.
I consider myself to be a cognitive/behavioral therapist although I am very client-centered. I believe in working with a client to define what changes they would like to make in their thinking, feeling, and behavior and help them to make these changes. I am a big fan of Albert Ellis, the founder of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). For addictions, I tend to use Smart Recovery and Rational Recovery principles.
