Foundations Counseling, LLC

Our foundational beliefs, values, experiences, and attitudes are exactly that, the foundation for everything that comes into our life to be built upon.  Much like building a home, if a stone in the foundation is skewed, the home is then structurally compromised.  When we experience trauma or negative experiences in life, everything that touches upon that foundation is compromised.  This can then lead to anxiety, depression, relationship issues, low self-esteem, suicidal thoughts, PTSD, and a loss of life direction, just to name a few possible results.

We innately know what we individually need to lead successful, healthy, and fulfilling lives.  Tamera strives to provide a safe, supportive, and warm environment to help initiate the change that is needed and a journey toward that goal.

Tamera Fernando has a Master of Arts Degree in Art Therapy with Specialization in Counseling from Seton Hill University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art History from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  She utilizes techniques from psychodynamic psychology, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, and art therapy.

Tamera has been in the mental health field for more than eight years and her experience includes providing psychotherapy and art therapy for military personnel with PTSD and traumatic brain injuries.  She also has experience as a behavioral consultant and mobile therapist for children, adolescents, and teens in local community settings and a partial hospitalization program.  Her experience also includes crisis work and crisis center management.

At Foundations, Tamera works with individuals and adolescents experiencing abuse, addictions, anger management, stress, anxiety, panic attacks, self-worth issues, abandonment issues, trauma, behavioral issues, cutting/self-injury, self-worth issues, suicidal ideation, anxiety, depression, parenting challenges, trauma, anger and defiance.

She can also help with grief and loss, PTSD, anger management, boundaries, adjustment, trauma and abuse recovery, self-esteem, personality disorders, spirituality, and assertiveness training.

Tamera helps couples work through issues such as attachment, communication, intimacy, affair recovery, premarital counseling, codependency, divorce recovery, sexuality and intimacy issues.

Tamera has several professional affiliations, including American Art Therapy Association (AATA), American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT), American Counseling Association (ACA), American Mental Health Counseling Association (AMHCA), American Psychological Association (APA), Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD), Association for Specialists in Group Work (ASGW), and International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors (IAMFC).
