Welcome. My name is Tammy. I am Registered Psychologist with a Private Practice in Ponoka, AB. Being a therapist is my passion and I am honored when I am invited to join in and be a part of people’s life journeys. My goal in working with my clients is to join them as they transition into new versions of themselves. I aim to be genuine and approachable and supportive in helping clients guide themselves along their journey to a brighter future. Along the way I incorporate techniques, activities and interventions that bring with them a feeling of control over emotional instability and new ways to manage the inevitable ups and downs we experience on our life path.
As humans we all go through difficult periods in our lives. At times life can feel like a roller coaster and that we are out of control. As a parent it can feel like our child is out of control, as a partner it can feel that our relationship is out of control. This can create symptoms of hopelessness, helplessness, anxiety, fear, sadness, anger and/ or despair. When we need support we turn to family and friends, and when that is not enough- turn to a Psychologist.
My goal is to help you learn to help yourself in these moments. To work with you to build a tool box full of skills and techniques that you can use in your times of need. And of course, I am here to listen. Often what we need is to be heard, not judged, not corrected, not solved…. But heard.
I am primarily a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist and was trained at the University of Lethbridge. I have been a practicing Certified Canadian Counsellor since 2008 and I am currently a Provisional Psychologist. I am passionate about learning and growth and continue to take in regular educational opportunities so that I am always learning and growing myself. As you will read further on my site, I practice individual therapy, therapeutic play with children 4 years +, and I work with couples and families. I also have a specialty in working with individuals, couples and families struggling with Sex Addiction.
When working with children, 4 years old and upward, I have a play/ art room available. Children learn and process their experiences through play. The skill of play is very important in the mental growth and development in children. Young children do not often talk about their feelings, they show them. Children process their feelings differently than adults; they can often work through their trauma or other struggles through play and art. My office is equipped with a sand tray, toys and a variety of art supplies to help children express their feelings and work through them in a healthy, safe and trusting environment. Whom you send your children to see is a big decision for parents. I meet with parents before I meet with children, you will have an opportunity to not only share your concerns with me, but view my space and decide if I am the right therapist for you, your child, and your family.
I am here for you.
Again welcome. I look forward to meeting you.
