Professional and Personal Information:

Tom Petit, Ph.D., is a nationally board certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor as well as a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Florida Qualified Counseling Supervisor.  During his 30 years of private practice, Dr. Petit has developed a unique approach to understanding people, problems that arise, and solutions that gives individuals, couples, and families practical help for living according to their design.  Counseling focuses on reclaiming a vitality and stability to undergird and enable each one to move forward into life’s challenges, rewards, and joys.  

Dr. Petit is an EMDR, RRT (Rapid Resolution Therapy) and Trauma Informed Hypnosis (TIH) Certified therapist. He offers trauma counseling.  Life brings large and small events that when added together can have a snowballing effect.  The use of EMDR therapy helps clients get “unstuck” and move forward in productive, healthy, stable ways.  He is a certified therapist through EMDRIA:  www.emdria.org.

Offering individual, couple and family therapy the Counseling Center, located in St. Petersburg, Florida is easily accessible from Tampa and Sarasota/Bradenton.  Dr. Petit conducts business and life coaching world wide.  E-therapy through a secure Telehealth portal, doxy.me through any internet enabled device, and through HIPAA approved portals  and by phone makes services available without the travel time.  PANDEMIC Trauma Telehealth is also offered at present.

Dr. Petit received his graduate degrees in counseling with his doctorate from the University of South Florida-Tampa in Counselor Education.  His undergraduate degree is from the University of Illinois-Urbana. His professional memberships also include the  the American Mental Health Counselors Association, Florida Mental Health Counselors Association, Suncoast Mental Health Counselors Association, EMDRIA, and Institute for Rapid Resolution Therapy.
