Why you are here

You are looking at this profile because you are hurting in some way---perhaps depression, anxiety, maybe you have experienced a loss, or are struggling in a relationship--- and you want it to be different. No matter the motivation, I commend you for your willingness to seek help and your courageousness in taking this important first step in creating real change in your life.

How I can help you

I work from a psychodynamic orientation. What does that mean? As your therapist, I will work with you to help create insight into the sources of any unhappiness. Once we understand the roots of your pain, together we will examine how these conscious and unconscious thoughts, feelings and beliefs are impacting your current life situation and seek out ways to introduce the positive change you are seeking.

With over 15 years of experience, I have worked with an extremely wide range of clients and concerns. I have worked with all manner of issues and feelings, and have a strong belief that ordinary suffering, general unhappiness, dissatisfaction in relationships, work and life, and/or a lack of meaning are all worthy reasons to enter therapy as any other kind of suffering. I specialize in grief work of all kinds ( loss of loved one, job loss, relationship loss, infertility, and more), life transitions, relational issues, and couples therapy.

I have a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute and a B.A. in Liberal Studies from Antioch University. I trained extensively at the C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles. I studied creative writing at UCLA. I attended Psychoanalytic Center of California’s Certificate Program in Adult Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.

Benefits of Therapy with Me

Clients have told me that I am, metaphorically, kind of like a gifted massage therapist, in that I know where all the "knots" are and how to help to get them out and restore healthy functioning. Unlike massage therapy, the process of counseling is not at all passive, I can't do therapy on you---we do therapy together---therapy is about a relationship What you bring to the work in terms of your willingness to be honest, vulnerable and consistent are absolutely essential. Having said that, if you are willing to do the work I feel confident I can help you achieve the therapeutic goals that you have.  I have seen my clients experience so much benefit in our work together.

My patients report that in our work together they have achieved:

  • Improved relationships with themselves and others.
  • Falling in love with their partners all over again.
  • Finding meaning out of past experiences and discovering previously unknown strength and resilience.
  • Better able to communicate needs, feelings, and desires.
  • Able to establish healthy boundaries.
  • No longer turn to unhealthy modes of coping, and instead find healthy methods of coping.
  • Healing of disordered eating, low self-esteem, childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties.
  • Letting go of the past and able to move on to happiness.
  • Healing of traumas and difficult childhoods.

Publications/Media

I literally wrote the book on self-care and how to get to your Next Happy. I authored two best-selling books, An Invitation to Self-Care: Why Learning to Nurture Yourself is the Key to the Life You Have Always Wanted and The Next Happy: Let Go of the Life You Planned and Find a New Way Forward.  I have been featured in First for Women, Redbook, Psychologies, Huffington Post, The New York Daily News, Yahoo News, Salon.com, The Daily Mail, among many others.  I have appeared on Fox News, NPR and KTLA5 Morning Show.
