Acknowledging that you would like to change or that you are ready to work on relieving your suffering is a first step toward improving your mental well-being. Many of us hold off seeking professional support because we believe (or hope) that the issue will resolve itself. We may rely on unhealthy coping strategies to help us get through each day.
I have lived in Victoria most of my life. In 2006, I received my Bachelor of Science degree with a major in psychology from the University of Victoria. After graduating, I wanted to learn more about mental wellness and substance use issues so I then went on to earn a Mental Health and Addictions post degree diploma from Camosun College. It was upon completion of this program when I realized I wanted to become a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC).  I did my internship at Citizens’ Counselling Centre and the cases I worked on and the clients I had the privilege of meeting there re-affirmed my passion for my chosen profession.
I am trained to work with individuals, couples, groups, families and children in a general counselling practice environment. My techniques range from Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Response-Based Therapy (RBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused Brief-Therapy (SFBT), Trauma Informed Practice, Narrative Therapy and Mindfulness Practice. I also strive to adopt inclusive practices in my everyday interactions with clients and community.
Issues that clients often choose to discuss include grief and loss, depression and anxiety, addictions (including technology, sexual and food), trauma, sexual orientation and gender identity, and relationship challenges. I am an ally to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or two-spirited and questioning (LGBT2Q+) community and have attended workshops and conferences to help me better understand the issues facing the LGBT2Q+ community. Being a parent of 3 children who are involved in competitive sports, I am also passionate about supporting athletes and their families through tryouts/assessments as part of team selections and help alleviate and manage stress that may continue post team selection.
In addition to providing counselling services, I am available to facilitate workshops on topics related to Supporting Families through Pregnancy Loss, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, and Sports-Related Anxiety Management for Youth.
As we know, trust is at the heart of healing. My goal throughout our time together is to ensure you are confident I’m the person you feel is best suited to join you on your therapeutic journey.
