I am a Certified Addictions Counselor. I have been treating people with addictions for over 25 years. Although I respect the traditions and teachings of AA, I do not ordinarily use AA philosophy in my practice. Rather, I use Smart Recovery and Rational Recovery techniques. I believe that we all can learn new ways of thinking, feeling, and doing...and that includes engaging in addictive behaviors.

People who experience addiction deserve to be treated with respect and compassion! This can be difficult in the face of many of the things that the addict can do while in active addiction, and the many problems that result. Recovery from addiction is not a solo process, it requires a supportive environment including a trusted ally, family, and community support.

Many people seek comfort when experiencing upsetting emotions such as worry, sadness, boredom, unhappiness, discontent, or loneliness. Are you replacing an emotional need with food? Food can be used to silence one’s loneliness, pain, or suffering. We can help you through your food and eating addictions as well as other addictive behaviors. We address all types of addictions.

Addictions are often the sign of underlying emotional issues that have not been addressed. Many people choose to self-medicate rather than address their emotional issues, or, while they may be willing to address the emotional issues, they do not understand their emotions, and thus resort to substance use/abuse. If you discover the factors influencing that decision, you stand a better chance of working out of your addiction.
