I am an Emotionally Focused therapist (EFT) & I am a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist Candiate Level 4 0f 4 (CSAT). These two modalities work hand in hand for recovery and healing. EFT is an attachment model - helping individuals to become more securely attached to those who mean most. Sexual disorders & addiction disorders are disorders of bonding - a misguided attempt to secure attachment. When we dont have healthy, accessible people we can turn to for comfort & care, we often turn away to other things to cope & manage painful feelings. This is where addiction often forms. I work with someone who has some sobriety established to help them build secure relationship with self & others.

There are 2 primary forms of addiction. One is substance and the other is process or compulsive and uncontrollable behaviors such as gambling and sex. I have certification in addiction and use the Carns 30 task model with associated text and workbooks to enhance the understanding and recovery from addiction. I also work with the partners of those with addiction to heal the betrayal and create a better relational and personal life.

If you know the Serenity Prayer, you may have experienced addiction recovery in a group setting, known a family member who has or read about its affiliation with self-help programs. While the anonymous/self-help programs are effective for many learning a new way of life when it comes to a specific drug and alcohol addiction; others find they need recovery, not only from addiction but, further, from early childhood trauma, or codependency or panic attacks and any number of other underlying stressors.
