One of the first steps in working with chronic anger and irritability is to rule out factors such as depression or even brain trauma and dementia. Once those factors are ruled out, it is important to look for patterns when anger flareups occur, and to increase awareness of "early warning signs" and retrain the body to respond to symptoms of "flooding" (increased blood pressure, heart rate, etc.) with calming strategies (deep breathing exercises and mindfullness practices). Finally, looking at thoughts and beliefs that contribute to feeling angry can help change the frequency and intensity of anger.

Anger is a basic human emotion that is used mostly when we feel threatened, harmed, betrayed, or disrespected. However, the extent to which we use anger is based upon attitude. Having an unsympathetic view of the world can cause you to quickly jump to conclusions that produce unpleasant results. My approach to anger management helps my client identify triggers to their anger in order to be able to avoid or defuse them rather than automatically react to them. To learn coping skills that will help reduce the level of stress in their lives and to practice being assertive, not aggressive in order to remain in control of their feelings.

Anger is a natural human emotion that we all experience. The problem lies when you are not able to control it and the anger is controlling you. My approach to treatment is to help you to identify your triggers and the underlying cause, and then to help you to develop new skills to cope and interact in your world. We will work together to ensure that the mind, body and spirit are in balance so that you can live a more fulfilling and peaceful life.

Anger is good! This may seem contrary to what you've always believed about anger. You've probably spent a lot of time and energy trying to get rid of it. That would be a big mistake. Did you know that God was angry at times? If God was angry, how could it be wrong to feel anger? I propose the issue is not in the emotion itself, but in how we express it. You'll benefit from counseling for anger issues by learning healthy ways to use your anger, becoming more emotionally insightful, and developing skills to become connected deeper relationally.

To give a specific example, PTSD tends to generate angry people. If you find yourself going through the work day and suddenly a person says something fairly mundane to you and suddenly you want to dump your coffee on them, you may have been triggered. I love helping clients name their triggers and begin to cope and even heal from their anger triggers.

I have never met a person who doesn't have some reason to be angry. But, I have also seen much displaced anger, rage disproportunate to the situation at hand and relationships destroyed due to anger. If your anger is bothering you and getting between you and the people you love, call me today. I have been able to help many people see where their anger may originate and better navigate their emotions, thoughts and behaviors. There is hope for those who call.

My approach helps people reduce overall anger in one's life, in addition to helping men and women reduce anger reactions and increase self-control. By changing one's expectations and better meeting needs, the individual will reduce underlying negative feelings (e.g. sadnes, anxiety) that often precedes anger. I stress the importance of learning alternative thinking skills and restructuring beliefs to empower oneself to improve circumstances and better attain personal goals. I have worked with different populations in providing anger management, including court-ordered clientele.

Pain is often what lies buried underneath anger. Anger can be a very effective defense against incurring any further pain or feeling the pain that is already there. Anger can also be a catalyst, helping to motivate us to make a change in our lives. However, when we hold onto anger after its usefulness has expired, (it is no longer constructive)or we are not in control of our anger and as a result we act out in destructive ways, anger is suddenly a huge liability. When we act destructively, and not constructively we are caught in a way of life that does not allow for further growth. Learning new coping skills to help manage anger is an act of courage and the first step toward healing.

Uncontrolled anger can be destructive not only to your relationships, but to your mental and physical health. There are many successful techniques that can help you to control and channel that anger into more positive and productive ways. It is also important to examine the source of your anger. Many times we have been treated in ways that are abusive and hurtful. We have experienced situations that seem impossible to understand. When those issues are left unresolved, anger can be a natural response. Together we can work toward a resolution in those areas of your life.

Anger is an emotion that we all experience at times, but it's how our anger is expressed that can cause real damage. Anger can get the best of anyone no matter what age. When someone is enraged or out of control they're not thinking or acting rationally. My goal is to help individuals learn to control their anger by replacing a negative thought or action with a positive one. Anger management is possible, and with practice it can become a reality. If you come to see me we'll talk about the thought cycle and repeating patterns and you'll learn how to calm down and express frustration and disappointment in a healthy way, which will will help you and those around you. Call me and let's talk.
