Anger and violence are wildly misunderstood issues. I believe that it is important to explore the context in which the anger or violence occurs. For example, does it happen at home, or at work, or in public? Who is impacted by the anger or violence? How do the individuals who are impacted resist and respond to the anger/violence? Through counselling we will explore the context of the interactions. Once we understand the context (who is doing what to who?) I will respectfully invite responsibility taking and strategies for more helpful communication and responses.

Anger can be understood as a secondary emotion. This means that oftentimes, there is another emotion, such as sadness or fear underlying our anger. Anger can be a strong and uncomfortable emotion for many; my approach is to help clients first regulate their feelings of anger, help them identify the triggers, and connect with their underlying emotions to bring awareness and healing.

It sucks to be angry and loose control of our emotions. Anger can have a devastating impact on the people we love the most. I will support you in addressing the emotions, trauma and pain underneath anger and learn to identify your triggers and patterns. I will teach you tools to address your stress and help you learn to better deal with your emotions. Learning to communicate our needs in a way that will be received is also a part of how I address anger issues.

There are many approaches to anger management but many of these don't work when you're angry! Being logical about the feeling or trying not to express the feeling rarely works! There are legitimate reasons for anger and the underlying cause must be understood if we are going to manage this complicated emotion. It may be coming up to protect us or to mask something even more difficult. You may notice that anger comes up in certain contexts and perhaps with certain people. If you are willing to do some hard work and face some difficult truths, understanding your anger can turn your life around. When we learn from anger you may be amazed how much better your life can work and feel.

“Speak when you are angry and you will make the best speech you will ever regret.” Ambrose Bierce Anger is often an intense emotional response that can negatively affect people’s lives. Many people struggle to manage and express their anger effectively due to often intense and overwhelming feelings. Families, work, friendships and one’s personal well-being can be destroyed unintentionally along the way. Although we cannot control anger provoking situations, we can learn step by step techniques for successfully and efficiently managing them. Through counselling we will work to access the issues provoking anger and outbursts, and develop tools to identify and effectively manage emotional triggers. When needed, we will also work with families and...(view profile to read more)

We will go over how we think affects how we feel and how we feel affects how we behave. We will go over ways to help clients regulate their emotions better when they are angry. Strategies can include ways to manage impulse control, breathing exercises, and relaxation exercises overall.

It is my hope that clients will learn strategies to assist them in more effectively managing emotions of anger and the accompanying negative behaviours. Clients will explore and identify underlying causes of such emotions, as well as situational “triggers”. It is also my hope that clients will develop communication skills that will promote healthy interactions and successful resolutions of conflicts should they occur.

To incorporate either DBT skills training or Psychodynamic approaches when working with clients who may identify to having anger management. To assess and explore the root cause of such issues. Anger mangement is primarily based on Cogntitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), though is integrated with other approches considering the needs, age and situation of the individual. Art and Play therapy may be used with children, (as well as Art Therapy for adults) in the understanding, expression and processing of anger in intent to reduce the experience of anger and its expression. Positive coping and management are promoted and families (parents+kids) in conflict can expect to explore ideas / models of conflict reduction. In this way, parents of kids should expect to be involved in learnining how to deal with anger and how to assit their children in learning improved ways of anger management

I believe anger management ultimately comes down to emotional regulation and finding an alternative way to still express yourself, but in a more safe and effective way. The goal is not to get rid of the emotion, but to work with it before it overcomes you. What is underneath the anger? What message are you trying to get across when you feel angry? How was anger expressed to you growing up? What emotions did you feel safe to express growing up? How did you learn to deal with your anger over the years? These are questions that I would explore and build skills from here to help you reach a better understanding of the processes behind the intense anger that you are feeling.

Anger often stems from feeling so many emotions all at once. You lose a sense of control. You go from 0 to 100 in a blink of an eye. By getting angry you’re attempting to regain control that’s presumed lost. But instead, you’re full of guilt and shame. Feeling angry and reacting in anger, is simply exhausting. I’ll help you learn how to regain control, in a healthy way.
