It is very difficult to function in our society without at times feeling totally overwhelmed by anxiety and stress. For many thousands, if not millions, of years, stress and anxiety came in the form of fears surrounding attacks from wild animals, not finding enough berries to fill the basket for the day, ghosts and evil spirits that may be lurking in the dark woods, or violent attacks from neighboring tribes. We do still have similar fears, but they are typically far removed from our clear and always present ability to address them. Our concern about enough food on the table is more complex now than not finding enough berries. We must develop new tools to cope with our more complex lives.
