It is normal to worry and feel stressed about life's problems and pressures. But when compounded symptoms begin to overwhelm us to the point where we are getting headaches, heart palpitations, a churning stomach, cold sweats, sleepless nights, weight loss, obsessive thoughts, a distressed GI tract - then we need help to break the adrenaline-fear cycle. Anxiety feeds on fear and needs to be confronted, appropriately and safely, with relaxation techniques, new perceptions and constructive thinking patterns. A counsellor can help you do this.

As a therapist, I recognize the debilitating effects that anxiety and stress can have on one's life. Through therapy, we work collaboratively to identify triggers and develop coping mechanisms to manage overwhelming feelings. Together, we explore thought patterns and behaviors contributing to anxiety, fostering self-awareness and resilience. Through evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and mindfulness, clients learn to challenge negative thoughts and cultivate a sense of calm. Therapy provides a safe space to process emotions, learn relaxation techniques, and develop practical strategies for coping with stressors.

In working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, I use both a cognitive behavioural therapeutic (CBT) approach and eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. The principal aim of cognitive behavioural therapy is to increase awareness that thoughts and behaviour drive emotion. My aim is to increase consciousness of distorted perceptions, and then assist individuals in rebalancing those perceptions to be more accurate. EMDR focuses specifically on reprocessing traumatic memories that are at the root of the anxiety. Through EMDR individuals can come to terms with traumatic and distressing memories that underlie anxiety.

I love working with people who wrestle with anxiety and stress, I love it because of the difference I witness in the lives and experiences of my clients. Employing a blend of mindfulness, somatic experiencing and neuroscience (polyvagal) techniques, the felt experience of anxiety can be managed in an entirely new way for you, and can lead to profound change in your life. I can not make it so that you never feel anxious again, but we can work to help you learn what to do when you experience the familiar sensations of anxiety, so that it doesn't take over your thoughts, body and life.

Everybody worries. But when your stress level is crippling or you go out of your way to avoid anxiety-producing situations, it's time to make a change. Stop the overthinking and gain control of your stress, by becoming aware of what you're telling yourself and replacing it with more accurate and helpful thoughts, slowing your mind down, and taking action to reduce or even eliminate the sources of your stress and anxiety. It may seem overwhelming, but you'll be amazed at how quickly you can start to feel better once you take the first few steps. Your mental and physical health are too valuable - call now to put the anxiety and stress behind you, and start enjoying life again.

Untreated anxiety has the potential to reappear throughout a person's life. This is why it is so important to seek treatment as soon as symptoms arise. Here at Whiteboard, we believe there are two realities in life: 1) Everyone has some level of anxiety; 2) No one should be crippled by the fallout from that anxiety. Racing thoughts, mood swings, difficult emotions — these are all hallmarks of anxiety which require treatment. Our treatment approach involves breaking down the component parts of a client's anxiety in order for them to better understand the motivating factors behind it. Once this occurs, steps are taken to help clients understand the steps they need to take to discover freedom.

Stress and anxiety are one of the most common issues that people struggle with. It can feel overwhelming to be alone with all of those feelings. I can help examine what is contributing to these feelings, and whether there are underlying issues that are bothering you. Often anxiety occurs when our life and our values and goals are not in line. I can help in examining lifestyle choices that may need changing to help lower anxiety symptoms. I also help people examine how their style of thinking contributes feelings of stress and anxiety. I would like to help support you in creating a life where you live life in the present moment, with less worry and overthinking.

Think of anxiety as. your mind's overzealous gaurdian, a little like a worried friend who double-checks everything. It's an ancient system designed to keep you on your toes! It ensures we are vigilant in everyday life, but sometimes anxiety over-estimates the amount of danger we are in, and this is when it becomes a problem. Therapy can help get anxiety back to healthy levels by identifying triggers, teaching coping strategies and providing tools to manage those anxious thoughts.

My approach is holistic that encompasses attitude and thought-processing with practical ways to alleviate anxiety. Though seemingly simplistic a perspective of "half empty/half full" this helps to change cognitive processing and feelings and self-mastery in incremental behaviour change by "doing" something different from past habitual reflex reaction. Hence, training for new muscle-memory responses and kinetic movement forms part of this core method to effect positive change. Trying to meet unreachable expectations defines anxiety. This chasm between expectation and reality is the task of therapy. Deep breathing good sleep hygiene nutrition and daily exercise leads to wellness and balance

Life is hard. It can also be wonderful. Flux and flow. Often anxiety is created by a faulty belief system, and by the way the human brain works...I will explain in session...with what we now know about the brain and how it works, we know that we have a lot more power over our thoughts than we used to think we have. We CAN begin to shift our thinking. Yes, sometimes medication is also needed, especially as we learn how to have more control over our thoughts.

How do I Treat Anxiety? We know that chronic anxiety affects about 15% of the population (Bourne, 2000). But here is the good news; anxiety is treatable and is quite possible to overcome. Solving this problem requires a good deal of effort and quick fixes don’t exist. These could involve working on several behavioural skills at once which can be learned. Practitioners like Registered Psychotherapists who work with anxiety disorders will often employ a cognitive-behavioral approach because of its proven effectiveness. CBT focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful thinking distortions and behaviors, improving ways we respond emotionally and developing personal coping strategies.

If life were a video game, anxiety would be the boss at the end of each level. We might hide from it, or run from it, but sooner or later we're gonna have to face it. Like any heroic tale, we seldom start at the beginning and jump right to the end. Along the way we'll make sure you're equipped with the tools needed to confront even the most intimidating and powerful adversaries. Plus, what journey would be complete without help from trusted advisors and friends. No hero does it alone, and I look forward to joining you on your worthy quest.

When it comes to treating anxiety disorders, research shows that therapy is usually the most effective option. That’s because anxiety therapy, unlike medication, treats more than just the symptoms of the problem. Meristem can help clients uncover the underlying causes of their worries and fears; learn how to relax; look at situations in new, less frightening ways; and develop better coping and problem-solving skills. Our approach gives clients the tools to overcome anxiety and teaches them how to use them. Since anxiety disorders differ considerably, therapy is tailored to our clients' specific symptoms and diagnosis.
