It is normal to worry and feel stressed about life's problems and pressures. But when compounded symptoms begin to overwhelm us to the point where we are getting headaches, heart palpitations, a churning stomach, cold sweats, sleepless nights, weight loss, obsessive thoughts, a distressed GI tract - then we need help to break the adrenaline-fear cycle. Anxiety feeds on fear and needs to be confronted, appropriately and safely, with relaxation techniques, new perceptions and constructive thinking patterns. A counsellor can help you do this.

Understanding how your thinking, feelings and behaviours are linked will give you the freedom to escape the “stress trap”.

Anxiety and stress may be robbing you of peace of mind and interfering with you ability to enjoy your life. These issues are quite common in my counselling practise. I use emotionally focused, cognitive behavioural, solution focused, mindfulness and narrative therapy. All of these models are helpful in treating anxiety but I get to know you first and choose a method of working that is most helpful for you as a unique individual.

In working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, I use both a cognitive behavioural therapeutic (CBT) approach and eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. The principal aim of cognitive behavioural therapy is to increase awareness that thoughts and behaviour drive emotion. My aim is to increase consciousness of distorted perceptions, and then assist individuals in rebalancing those perceptions to be more accurate. EMDR focuses specifically on reprocessing traumatic memories that are at the root of the anxiety. Through EMDR individuals can come to terms with traumatic and distressing memories that underlie anxiety.

Does stress or anxiety interfere with your life? Research shows that the most effective way to treat anxiety/stress is through a CBT approach. I will assist you to learn effective coping strategies to take control of the anxiety/stress or to eliminate it. In assessing what type of anxiety you experience, I will tailor specific interventions for you to apply to change your anxious thoughts and behaviours. This will help you deal more successfully with situations that provoke anxiety or that you are avoiding. You will then find more balance, harmony, success and a sense of well-being. I would be pleased to assist you in beginning that journey of wellness.

Everybody worries. But when your stress level is crippling or you go out of your way to avoid anxiety-producing situations, it's time to make a change. Stop the overthinking and gain control of your stress, by becoming aware of what you're telling yourself and replacing it with more accurate and helpful thoughts, slowing your mind down, and taking action to reduce or even eliminate the sources of your stress and anxiety. It may seem overwhelming, but you'll be amazed at how quickly you can start to feel better once you take the first few steps. Your mental and physical health are too valuable - call now to put the anxiety and stress behind you, and start enjoying life again.

Often we are bombarded by stressful life circumstances that can steal our peace. Many of us have come through very painful and challenging experiences that have shaken our ability to create safety. All of which leave us vulnerable to anxiety and we can easily find ourselves in a constant state of panic. In my approach, I support you to make sense of these feelings and get them to work for you rather than against you. As we make sense of our fears and learn ways to create internal safety, we can create a peace that comes from the inside out. Like the quote says " I am not afraid of the storms, for I know how to sail my ship." Our work is to strengthen your ability to sail the storms.
