Anxiety and stress can take over our bodies, making it extremely difficult to move and show up throughout the day. Taking a look at how anxiety and stress shows up in the body will provide us with some insight into what is going on with the nervous system. By working together we can start to see what past or current triggers are occurring and how this is impacting the body. By uncovering these triggers and learning key tools this can create less stress and anxiety and more calm and peace.

In working with anxiety and stress we will talk about the larger 'problem' and think of different ways of framing or addressing it. This will occur over several sessions. In each session however we will introduce or practice a technique that the client can use to manage the symptoms of anxiety. Some of the techniques are visual, but I also usually do 5 minutes of meditation or breathing exercises. I used to live in India and credit my yoga instructors there for the breathing exercises I have learned to cope with anxiety. I always ask clients at the end of the session what their 'take-away' is, and we collaborate on a short and long term plan moving forward.

While our bodies are perfectly designed to adapt and react to stress, modern problems mean that we tend to detect life threatening dangers in very ordinary places. Conflicts at work, arguments in our relationships and uncertainties such as the post-Covid world activate old survival mechanisms. We may be stuck in the buzzing, fear states of ‘fight-flight’ or the numb and paralyzed states of ‘freeze and shut down.’ The good news is that I have a long history of safely and successfully helping individuals and couples to reduce and release stress using a variety of CBT and mindfulness techniques, as well as trauma-informed therapy. You have my commitment to compassionate and educated care.
