Various internal conflict underlie career problems. Often counselors give advice to those who come to them for career counseling, but I stay away from advice. Giving clients advice only keeps them dependent on you. Instead, I focus on the underlying conflicts that are related to low self-esteem, fear of competing or an inability to assert themselves. Often women have their own kind of conflicts about being a woman in a man's world, and internal resentments hold them back. My approach is to focus on the conflicts of each client and help them resolve them and cope more effectively. The approach has proven over the years to be quite successful.

Whether you’re developing your first career or looking to switch careers, I use a combination of assessment batteries and counseling to explore my clients’ goals, preferences, and aptitudes to identify their career path and develop a plan for achieving it.

I leverage a solution-based approach to clearly outline your primary challenge, work through an exercise to meditate on and define your future state and then work over 8 sessions to achieve it via homework and 1:1 sessions. Two fundamental questions I will help you answer is "Why do I want to change careers?" and "Why now?"

Having worked as an employment specialist, I consider myself an expert in all types of career counseling. While not a "head hunter", I have amassed a wealth of information as to how job search, obtain an interview, execute a successful interview and maintain a position. I have worked extensively with the N.Y. State Education Dept. (Access-vr) to assist clients with mental health disabilities to succeed as individuals and valued employees. It's really important to do what you love. My clients will be able to gain clarity about the work they want to do. I will assess client's strenghts and provide valuable feedback. Clients will find more joy in the work they do or realize that they possibly need to change positions depending on their situation. Often times, teens have a hard time know what they want to major in college or if they need college. Together, we will explore what aligns to the client's goals and values.
