Dr. Strauss offers career counseling through New Leaf Psychology Centre. In order to facilitate decision making, sessions will first assess your current skills, assets and interests. Your level of fulfillment at your current place of work, and obstacles to fulfillment will also be discussed. Career counseling is one of my favorite areas of therapy (and coaching). Choosing a career or making a career change can be incredibly confusing and frustrating when you don't know where to start, and it's easy to get lost in the details. There are so many factors that go into a big decision like this! As a later-in-life career changer I can relate. As a master's level Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) I have access to different personality assessments and strengths inventories that can be a solid starting point for deciding on new, second or third career. Another tool to help you move in the right direction is identifying your values - what you value in life and in a career.

Career research – is designed to help narrow down options. I will provide you with useful resources and have you complete information interviews with individuals doing the work. 3. Decision making and planning – Finalizing a decision and building out a transition plan (if required). In our career exploration, we may use techniques such as free association, dream analysis, and transference to help you uncover underlying motivations, fears, and desires related to your career. By examining patterns of behaviour, recurring themes, and emotional reactions in the counselling sessions, you can gain insight into why you are drawn to specific professions, struggle with certain job-related challenges, or feel unfulfilled in your current work.

Being a trained Life Coach, I help clients identify their dreams, bent and natural gifts, so they can build careers which utilize their skill set. From there, I help them set SMART goals – i.e. Simple, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic & Time-focused – broken down into smaller goals, so they never get discouraged, plus they get to witness and celebrate their progress every step of the way. I believe in walking alongside the client in their journey to complete what they set out to do, tackling obstacles as they come – shyness, communication issues, confidence, etc. – so nothing will stop them!
