Marie Hartwell-Walker, Ed.D.

Licensed Psychologist and Marriage and Family Therapist

409 Main St. Suite 105, Amherst, Massachusetts 01002

Parenting is one of the most challenging (and one of the most joyful) tasks of adulthood. I do not see children separately from their parents as I do not believe that I should become a quasi-additional parent. Parenting belongs to the parents. However, I do provide parent education, coaching and support for the adults in the family and family therapy when it would be helpful. I have run parent study groups for many years and am the founder of the Amherst Family Center, a support drop in center for parents of children from birth - 5. Many times, child therapists overdo the family system in their quest to seek effective solutions for emotional, learning or behavioral concerns with young children. And many times doctors overpathologize issues that shouldn’t be medicated necessarily. This leaves parents wondering what is the best route for their child? Introducing brainwave optimization technology. A fast, effective, natural, and less expensive way to allow your child's brain to make the optimizing changes it desires to make---on its own! Without any external force, opinion, medication, diagnostic, etc. Contact kevin@kevinflemingphd.com or 877-606-6161.

I have worked with a 4 year old child of divorced parents. These children are at risk for "disorganized attachment", a precursor to childhood separation anxiety. I feel the therapist needs perfect rapport to work with such a delicate situation. I use drawing, cartoons, CD's, dancing, and cookies. I may wish to consult with an MD. If the child tends to disassociate from reality, I'm afraid a child psychiatrist would need to be brought in.

James Foster, & Associates, LICSW

James Foster & Associates, COUNSELINGNH

540 Chestnut Street, Manchester, New Hampshire 03101

James Foster & Associates provides counseling for children. Some issues that are addressed are behavior problems, school issues, sibling rivalry, divorce, blended families, trauma and stress. The child's parent(s) will come for an initial intake appointment to provide background information of the problem area. The child would then be assessed by the clinician. Upon assessing the child, the Clinician will meet with the parent(s) to discuss the treatment plan and to move forward with play therapy. Parent's participation in either individual and/or collateral appointments may be necessary to process parenting experiences and difficulties with the child.
