I have been a Christian counsellor in a church and worked Christian organisation for 8 years. I integrate faith and psychology to provide a holistic approach to healing. Grounded in the principles of Christianity, I offer guidance, support, and a safe space for individuals to explore their spiritual and emotional concerns. By incorporating prayer, scripture, and Christian values, I help clients navigate life's challenges, strengthen their faith, and find purpose and meaning.

For many people, spirituality is an important part of their belief system and helps inform who they are. While I work with clients of all backgrounds, many clients specifically seek out therapists who share similar values and beliefs as them. In offering counselling to Christians, I do not impart my views or beliefs, but simply hold space for you to process your experiences and allow you to ask yourself questions you may not feel comfortable asking in other places.

In my practice, I use a holistic approach that addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of my clients' lives. I see each client as having inherent dignity and worth and this shapes my approach in every way. My hope is that each of my clients can show up as they are, being free to explore thoughts and feelings, connect with their faith/spirituality, and develop the skills necessary to live a more fulfilling life.

Is anyone tired of traditional "Christian" Counseling? I know I came to that place in my life growing up, when I didn't just want to hear that God could heal all of my messes (even though I knew He could - if it is His will), I wanted to know that someone (hear on earth) had my best interests at hand too! However, there is still evil around us, and we certainly don't just want to put our hearts in minds into the hands of just anyone. It is important, in my opinion, to have an educated counselor that knows what he or she is doing, who also see's counseling as a partnership between him/herself (the counselor), God and the power of prayer, and of course the client.

While Pacific Coast Counselling in Abbotsford does not offer "biblical" counselling, at least one of our therapists identifies as Christian. This may also be helpful for clients who are/were Christian and wish to feel understood at a deeper level around issues of spiritual abuse, trauma, grief and loss, anger with God, purity culture, deconstruction of faith etc..

God is amazing! He's always present, knows everything, and always has our backs. Still, there are times when it feels like He is distant, unresponsive, maybe that He's abandoned you. Been there.... But looking back, He was there during my hardest times, even when I thought He wasn't. He's there for you too during whatever challenges you're going through. Our relationship with our Creator and Saviour can always be improved. How? Look through the books of the Bible. (My personal favourites are Job, Esther, and Ruth.) I am a Christian counsellor born, raised and practicing in the Christian faith. The laws of Love taught in the Bible are as relevant today as they were when the Bible was written. Jesus left us with His example and a set of principles, to guide us through the trials that we face in our current lives. Although the form and conditions of our lives now have changed, this guidance helps us to navigate through the challenges of the current day. My practice of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) includes an openness to The Holy Spirit to guide our process. Sue Johnson's book "Created For Connection" shows how EFT can help couples repair their marital relationship in the context of Christianity.

I am a practising Catholic. I use a common sense approach and I respect all religions. There is no right or wrong religion. My faith has helped me many times during my lengthy career. For 14 years I was a consultant with the BC Coroner's Office and I did psychological autopsies of teens that either committed suicide or were suspected of committing suicide. Many times my faith gave me the strength to support those grieving parents in the most terrible time of their lives.

While most Christian Counselors pride themselves on how many Scriptural passages they can recite and how many links they can make from the Bible to psychological disorders, the Christian-centric work of Grey Matters International, Inc.is grounded in one principle: truth. For us, the work is more about truth and transparency of Christ's message and working on the natural laws of accountability and decision making that evolves from that. If I am working with a non-believer, I will engage you at YOUR level of meaning and purpose. My goal is to help you break free of whatever is holding you back.

Approaching counselling from a Christian perspective is not about relying on God to solve your problems, but rather learning how to align oneself to live and work within his created world and intentions for our happiness. Free will is an essential gift that allows us to explore this creation and find meaning and happiness that has been inspired by God. Developing a trust in God to guide and direct us in this task is an essential process in establishing faith that God will keep us safe whiling using our freewill and experience to look both ways before we cross the street.
