As a couples therapist, I see the couple as my client. I believe that my role is to help the couple function more effectively together, and to increase their happiness with each other. I pay special attention to the matters of honesty, trust, and respect. I care about what each individual wants from the relationship, and I help them to communicate this in an effective manner.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

When working with couples, I find that people get into bad habits and use short hand communication that gets them into trouble. We also at times develop expectations of one another, that sometimes using a counselor can help clarify communication and reinforce what has been going right. Some of the biggest, but often not the hardest to remedy are problems with childraising, money and long term goals.

Couples therapy is for married and unmarried couples who are contemplating separating and divorce or are trying to to resolve difficulties in the relationship, ranging from communication, trust, infidelity, sexual, etc.... This type of treatment can be used along with individual therapy, if there are difficulties in a primary relationship. It can also be used if the identified patient’s psychiatric disorder is adversely affecting the relationship. Couples Counseling is not easy, and requires each party to be open and honest about their emotions, feelings, behavior, and commitment to their relationship. Each party is responsible for being respectful of the other, needing to be accountable for their actions.

Pascual Chen, Psy.D.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

6200 Brooktree Rd. Suite 110, Wexford, Pennsylvania 15090

I am passionate about helping couples have successful and enjoyable relationships. When working with couples, I use a combination of emotionally focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, and Imago Dialogue. When couples experience conflict, they tend to be caught in a vicious cycle where the very tools they use to improve the relationship is the very thing that is making it worse. For example, a husband may get quiet when his wife brings on a complaint. The reason he is quiet is to not make things worse, but this happens to trigger the wife to get more upset. My goal is to help you identify your cycle, get unstuck, and learn effective communicative skills.
